It’s one game, have you watched the last 2 seasons of football.

If the Chiefs were the 2 seed, I agree with you. Them being the 2 seed would have meant that they highly likely played hard in every regular season game, including the Week 18 game at Denver, in desperate pursuit of the 1-seed, only to come up short. Then they'd likely play either the Broncos or Chargers in the Wild Card round (not easy), followed by the Ravens or Steelers, followed by a road trip to Buffalo. Then perhaps Detroit or Philly in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs would have less than a 20% chance of winning all four.

But if they're the 1 seed, they've got a very real shot. If the Chiefs win and Bills lose this week, the Chiefs in theory could have the 1-seed wrapped up after Week 16. That would enable them to rest Weeks 17 and 18 if they desired plus get a 1st-round bye. They wouldn't have to use a single good play in their playbook and would have pretty much have a month to reimagine the operation on both sides of the ball and get as healthy as possible. Part of the Chiefs' playoff success last year on offense I'd assume had a lot to do with Andy unloading the clip - he saves his absolute best plays for the playoffs. Being able to strategically deploy them across two games, both at home, with time off in between, and extra time to prep for possible opponent(s) is way easier than having to play every single week nonstop down the stretch in the regular season and then do it three times in the playoffs to advance to the Super Bowl.

If the Chiefs actually do get the 1-seed they better enjoy it. The Broncos and Chargers are coming for blood starting next year. I don't see many AFC West sweeps in KC's future anytime soon.

I don’t really believe that the Chiefs save entire game plans for the playoffs. Maybe a handful of plays for specific scenarios, but there are a lot offensive snaps per game, and they are largely going to continue to do whatever got them there.

I also don’t think rest is going to help them much either. If anything they want a guy like Hollywood Brown playing and getting reps after missing the whole season. Rice and Watson are done for the year, so rest won’t help them.

I think what we are seeing is who they are. Could they win 3 games in a row against good teams by drawing DPI on 4th and a mile, or blocking game winning FGs? Sure, but I think it’s really unlikely.

that ends the 1 seed imo and makes the lions game irrelevant.

all that matters for the bills is winning the final 3 to get to 10 wins in the conference

Agree.  Go 13 - 4 and we lock up the #2 seed.  Sure beating Detroit is great for bragging rights on the national stage but beating the Jets and NE twice is mich more important.

Another win by inches..........what else could you expect

So what? Most NFL games are one-score games.

I can't fathom why people think it's more impressive to lose more games (including blowout losses) than to consistently find ways to win.

Did I say something about 1 score games?  I think you responded to a different post than you intended.

Yes, what you're seeing is who they are. A team that finds ways to win every single week. Even when a slew of their top players are injured or their LT is a turnstile (also due to injury). Except that they're starting to get healthier and just upgraded their biggest weakness.

How do teams that lose more games and have fewer quality wins inspire more confidence in you?

Health is #1 priority now.

yes but they have to win the final 3 now.  There is no wiggle room.  They need the 10 conference wins to guarantee they are the 2 seed.

If they want to sit guys and get some rest for players this is the week to do it because the game means nothing for Buffalo.  There is no way KC is losing two games out of the last four.  I imagine they will play their starters in week 18 for a half and then backups in the second half and probably lose finishing 15-2 as the 1 seed.

If they go and lose 3 of the last four or even the two we need them to I imagine everyone will be shocked.  I will say having to play at pittsburgh and at denver is going to be difficult and both those teams will need those wins much like yesterday's game with the rams for buffalo.  So it is possible but unlikely.   Who knows, Cleveland plays really good defense at home so we will see what happens sunday I guess.  If they lose that one then maybe there is a chance.

Just seems like the table is set for KC and Buffalo to be the 1 and the 2.

@ Browns

Texans

@ Steelers

@ Broncos

I still see a path where KC goes 2-2 in this stretch

I very much see a path where they lose 1 of the next 3, which would come down to a potential L to the Broncos giving us the 1 seed if we win out

Would I bet on it, no way.. but that's not an easy schedule, especially if the Broncos are playing for their playoff lives final week of the season in Denver.

an interesting scenario that final week is, KC might have the 1 seed all set so they play their backups most of the game and Denver wins.  I bet Denver is fighting for that 7 spot with the chargers/dolphins/colts that week.

We might be actually rooting for this to happen to keep Miami out of the 7 seed and headed to orchard park I imagine for the saturday night game 6 days later.

Eric Eager, formerly of PFF, studied the phenomenon of Andy saving his absolute best plays for the biggest games (ie playoffs and crucial afc games). He often referred to them as simply "the good plays." Eager has deleted almost all of his tweets since landing a job with the Carolina Panthers earlier this year, but it's an actual real thing and KC's offensive #s are disproportionately good vs good teams. Now, maybe Mahomes and the Chiefs in general just get up for big games and perform better in those games. I'm sure not all of it can be attributed to play calling. But it seems like it's at least a piece of the pie.

Only one team at the end of the day when is the super bowl.. so by your measure there's 31 terrible franchises that are inept

Our record speaks to itself

We have the AFC East locked up by week 11 lol

And we're not any less of a super bowl contender after yesterday then we were on Saturday
