A disaster. A league-altering decision. Will forever go in the history books as the worst coaching decision in history.

Oh wait.

It’s a a loss. It happens. Move on

Nah, this isnt even Bills fans being overly critical, McDermott has reached the point where his defense and decision making in big moments is a topic of conversation on football shows and in the football community.

He’s getting absolutely torched on X right now, and justifiably so.

This can’t keep happening.

The anti McDermott people have been waiting for today for months. Quite sad the lives people live.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that the “anti-McDermott” people would have preferred a blowout victory, not another bungled loss by the coaching staff

Really? Josh walked up behind center and no one behind him.

Exactly.

It was a “trick”. Then the receiver motions to behind him.

It’s unreal. Literally kids that play Madden wouldn’t call timeout there. I don’t even think Matt Eberflus would have.

Matt Eberflus is still saving his timeout from that coaching debacle

For the love of god it would have been 4th and 6 ............ they eventually went for it on 4th and 5.  It made exactly a 1 yard difference accepting or declining the penalty.  The Rams were always going to go for it.  We had to stop them and we didn't.

3rd & 7 at BUF 37

(4:47 - 4th) (Shotgun) M.Stafford scrambles left end pushed ob at BUF 36 for 1 yard (C.Lewis). ** Injury Update: BUF-Ta.Johnson has returned to the game. PENALTY on LA-S.Avila, Offensive Holding, 9 yards, enforced at BUF 37 - No Play.

4th & 5 at BUF 35

(3:53 - 4th) (Shotgun) M.Stafford pass short middle to T.Atwell to BUF 24 for 11 yards (T.Rapp).

First time I’ve seen Josh seethe. He knew it was over the moment it was called. McD is both a great coach and incapable of matching Josh Allen’s peaks

It shouldn’t keep happening, but considering that Terry Pegula is in charge, it will.

Yeah. I mean McDermott will learn and we will never see this in the playoffs.  McDermotts the best clock management coach I have ever seen.

He was mad because he screwed up and didn’t score.

Only problem unless Tomlin gets fired not sure there are many other coaches Id replace him with... need someone in his ear that can explain these things to him... and get him to listen... grrr

Bottom line is that once again with the game on the line, our coaching staff made wrong-headed decisions that cost us a chance to win the game, just like the Texans game.  I lay it at the feet of McDummy.  He needs to take control in those situations and tell Brady what to call and what NOT to call.  The QB sneak was death.

After a penalty, giving you plenty of time to prepare. Really inexcusable on McDermott and Brady not grasping the situation.

And how much additional time burned off of the clock on the extra 3rd down play?

Blocked punt was ultimately the difference

Aside from the ridiculous TO at the end.

Not going for it on 4th and 2 was all I needed to see.

Accepting the penalty was bad - but kind of a 60-40 decision.

Not calling timeout was 100-0.  No coach who is aware of the situation does that.  It was clueless - as in, without a clue.

They literally didn't understand the situation.

Listen, I don’t care about losing this particular game. I wanted to win of course, and put pressure on KC tonight, but we already punched our playoff ticket and will be at worst the 3 seed in my opinion.

The issue I have has nothing to do with this particular game. The issue is that this game shows that our coaching staff still sucks at late game decision making.

And that’s a fundamental flaw that can hurt us long after this game.

Thats what I care about.

That’s true. If sneak doesn’t work, you still don’t call TO.

You have to call time out after the sneak, unless you're cool with the next play starting with about 25 seconds left on the clock

I don’t know man. He looked visibly upset and then quick to cover up his reaction, plus the little McD sideline chat. He knew it was placed out of reach
