Anytime you give up 44 points it has far more to do with the players getting beat constantly than coaching. Yup. McDermott and Babich have been covering up a glaring lack of talent on defense with scheme all season 1 Quote
Dan in Owego Posted December 9 Posted December 9 Wasn't impressed with our D for sure, but sometimes you gotta tip your cap. Stafford was spinning it and my gosh i really did not realize how great Puka was😮 1 Quote

I hope this will be a learning opportunity for this team as they enter the playoffs. It's good to get humbled once in a while to stay humble. Go bills! Lost in a shootout because we had a punt blocked for a TD…. 1 1 Quote
NoSaint Posted December 9 Posted December 9 1 minute ago, appoo said: Also I haven’t a clue what the solve is on defense. GR, AJE and Von Miller all had terrible games. Best you can do is hope it’s a 1 off type of thing. I mean can forgive get torched by 2 of the 10 best WRs having an A game. But the pass rush was suffocated. They went like 11 of 13 on 3rd down and a bunch of them favored the defense in down and distance. Bills actually solved the Ram running game but on 3rd down couldn’t do squat. Part tip of the hat to a really good skill set in LA, part you better hope they just played a bad game at the DL the defense will sometimes throw a hanging curveball. It’s an offensive league, and that’s just a reality. Just have to keep them few and far between. and can’t pair with continuing catastrophic special teams and clock management. Those two scare me more than our defense. 1 Quote
gobills1212 Posted December 9 Posted December 9 What i can't understand is why if you are going QB sneak, why do a normal one the first time and then line up for the tush push the 2nd time. The back should have been there the 1st play so they didn't need to give it a 2nd whack Quote
khlax3 Posted December 9 Posted December 9 McDermott’s end of game management is so frustrating but Joe Brady let him down in that situation. You cannot run the ball in that situation. McDermott is the head coach so he needs to communicate that but Brady cannot call that play. It put McDermott in a really bad spot either let 20-30 seconds run off the clock (the correct decision) or call the timeout. He should not have been in that situation. He deserves plenty of blame but Brady also deserves some criticism as well 1 Quote

gobills1212 Posted December 9 Posted December 9 Let's see what happens next week. Today was just a complete D letdown, but this game had let down all over it. That's why no team goes the entire season as the pundits choice for the 'best team'. They still scored 42 points, they just got a reality check that this philosophy won't work all the time. They didn't play a terrible game. Usually they overcome those mistakes, this week they cldnt. They still put on a show and usually this happens in the playoffs. I'm glad it happened today so it's not season over and they can learn something from it. Teams have let down games, and ya can't win em all. Allen didn't suck and had a big stat game for his MVP race. It's annoying, but not the end of the world. All those great Bills team had stinkers, going out west or Monday night. Somedays it's just not ur day. And this wasn't even your usual 'stinker'. They played well enough to win even w a leaky defense. That had to embarrass McD so let's hope he takes it to heart. That missed false start is what really grinds my gears;) Quote

The blocked punt was obviously massive and the TO egregiously bad. But that was after the Bills had given up 44 points and forced what, 1 punt? Quote

PauleeeWalnuts Posted December 9 Posted December 9 McD not only can’t admit he blew the timeout during his presser, but he also said there wasn’t enough players on the field to run a punt block at the end. What the hell is going on with this coaching staff and lack of communication? 1 Quote

There was a TE at the end of the line that kind of looked like he was going to run a route initially. That might also explain the confusion on what to do after it failed. Quote

CincyBillsFan Posted December 9 Posted December 9 On the positive side: * Allen * Shakir * Cooper * Hollins Who would have thought with both Diggs & Davis gone the Bills could execute an old fashioned shoot out at such a highly productive level. 2 Quote

You can only beat who is in front of you and we STOMPED teams. Quote

I agree. unfortunately, I think it’s very rare in todays nfl for a team to go 20 games and not have a few shootouts. it happens almost universally at some point. Not saying it should be without critique but I think if you look at special teams debacles we are more like a bad team than a good team. Generally our defense is that of good teams 3 Quote
