I think people don't realize the three points did nothing at that point in the game for the Rams. They were going to go for it on fourth and seven anyway that's why he accepted the penalty.

Accepting the penalty also cost at minimum 40 seconds. Then no defensive timeouts. It’s frustrating.

It was obvious they’d go for it either way. So you can’t line up on 3rd and 15 and just gift them 10 yards and it burned off more time too. He can’t ever read the room.

It woudl have been 4th and 3 or 4 i think and they would have gone for it. 

I hate McDermott but I don't think that was wrong to take the penalty and push them back.

And it's 4th and 8 if they go, and a career long fg attempt if they kick that only puts them up 6. Either option would have been better as it turned out
