Yea I’m not surprised Morrow got let go. After Milano came back , he becomes kind of redundant as the veteran LB just in case guy

Lewis Cine is a 2022 1st Round Pick of the Minnesota Vikings. Suffered a Compound Fracture in Week 4 of his Rookie year. Was released by the Vikings on August 27th of this year. Was originally announced to sign with the Jets Practice Squad, but changed his mind and signed with us. An interesting reclamation project. Must have looked pretty decent in Practice as i'd have assumed Kareem Jackson would be called up before him.

Posted elsewhere:  "As first reported by Nick Sabato of the Niagara Gazette, Cine is expected to work out more at linebacker instead of safety - a position that the Bills could use as many potential players as possible. "Cine felt he needed a fresh start after two frustrating seasons with the Vikings. Little did he know, that would include a position change as the Bills have spent the last few weeks giving Cine a try at linebacker," Sabato wrote.  "Early in his stint with the Bills, defensive coordinator Bobby Babich approached Cine about switching from safety to linebacker."

Taking this at face value, Cine may have usurped Nicholas Morrow on the depth chart.

Or maybe they want to try Cine out at "Big Nickel?"

I think there's something to the Big Nickel thing. Which is why he got some work at Linebacker. I don't think he's usurped Nicholas Morrow though. I believe if he made a full time change to Linebacker, they'd have said LB Lewis Cine has been elevated.

Feel like we have had a roster spot saved for a plodding LB since forever. There's always one dude who makes the team who can no longer run.

it’s funny you say that. When I saw him out there in the Texans game (I think), it reminded me of Kawika Mitchell’s last days here— seeing him take these bad angles and then try to run down a RB with those short arms and come up like 5 yards short.

Hopefully they had him put on a couple of pounds. The Big Nickel makes sense but who is coming off the field to put him on. I'm just talking semantics here as their not going to take Taron off the field. Unless they want to play 1 high with Rapp while Cine plays near the line against run based teams but I also don't think they want to rely on a PS guy who was a castoff in playoff time to stop the more run heavy teams.

Love me some Carter...he is the Ray Davis of the D...just a solid player that makes plays when he gets a chance.

DT is probably the shakiest group on the team. Ed's been good but he's had some games where he disappeared and he's not as dominant as he was at times last season. D.Jones has looked like he's lost half a step, he's not bad but he's not the at times dominant player he was the past couple of seasons. Austin Johnson has been decent as a rotational player but he's not great either. Jefferson/Phillips are JAG rotational depth players too nice options if there's an injury but not exactly players at this stage of their careers you want to rely on heavily.

Carter however was starting to look like he was starting to catch on before he got hurt. If he can add some quality play to that position group it would sure up a unit that while not bad has been a bit inconsistent at times.

Cine is 6'2", 198lbs, not LB size. He ran a 4.37 at his pro day 2 years ago. His speed may have suffered after his bad fracture, but he could be a pretty good Safety.

I'd love to see the Bills experiment with a few different players and looks over the last 4 games.

With all the injuries this year they couldn't really do that. Now that the team has more bodies and a bit more slack in the standings, they'll have more opportunity.

Buffalo Joe and Hamlin can’t run. So no worries the roster still has plodders.

Joe has been better than Morrow. Even if he wasn’t local he would still be better than Morrow.

The whole DL is shaky. Rousseau is very good but I still don’t think he is great. PFF says he wins a bunch of his matchups but still seems to disappear. Oliver is far more inconsistent. If those two can play consistent high level football for two months Bills may just win it all. Carter and Miller can do enough to support those two.

It's true that Buffalo Joe isn't a speedster but neither is he slow for a linebacker.

Also his relative athletic score is very high:

His 10 yard split, shuttle, vertical jump, broad jump, and bench press are all well above average.

He’s done fine on special teams. He is far cheaper and just a good as Matakevich. Which is exactly what many of us have said on this thread for years. No need to spend significant money on special teams guys. They can always find a UDFA or late round pick.

I think AJE/Groot/Von are a top 5-7 DE combination and Smoot as a rotational role player has been solid and he will be back for a stretch run. I also think Solomon when given some snaps has shown he can be a back end of the rotation player. The DE group is not a concern for me. The DT group needs Ed and Jones to play better while i also think that Carter returning would be a big help to solidify the rotation there.

Paywall, but what's with this team and undersized linebackers? Maybe they convert Hardy next?

Go look at my post in the how do we prioritize stopping the run thread. I explain it there
