I am shocked at how poorly the SAA is holding out. They’re probably retreating to fortify Damascus, but even so it looks like the rebels are well-trained and well-equipped.

Russia has likely abandoned its support for the Syrian government if they fell this fast.

Death to Assad!

That’s the goal, yes. The Syrian people should be able to live free in a liberal democracy.

Ah yes, democracy in the middle east. What could go wrong?

Absolutely. Hopefully Assad meets the same fate as Hussein. Regarding living freely in a liberal democracy, what do you put the chances at? I have them at slim to none.

The problem is the opposition are ISIS Islamic fundamentalist terrorists re-branded as "moderates" supported by trouble-maker Erdogan of Turkey that will guaranteed go on a killing rampage if they take over along with imposing a Sharia law theocratic dictatorship across the region. Anyone thinking this is some "democratic" front is a fool. It is definitely not going to work out that way. This, as opposed to keeping a secular dictator in Assad. So its pick your poison here.

And that was a bad thing.

Assad is evil and his fall would be a good thing.

But Erdogan is no angel and the rebels are not a unified democratic force, but tenuously partnered factions that likely have very different ideas on how things should go post-Assad.

I don’t know what the “day after” looks like. Could be promising, but I feel like the best bet is that it’s going to be a mess at least for a while.

One of my coworkers is Syrian who still travels back there. I’ve been meaning to ask him his thoughts on this but we haven’t been in the office on the same day this week. I’ll ask him next time I see him in person.

Just another terrorist organization trying to topple a dictator. The muslim world is filled with not only secular but tribal lines. Sometimes the only way to rule is with an Iron Fist. See Iraq heck see Yugoslavia before the USSR collapsed. Not saying its right but just sayin….
