sven233 Posted December 4 Posted December 4 There was no arguing the fact that Hamlin was awful earlier in the season. He was. Always out of position, was thinking too much, and was slow to react on top of being physically slow to begin with. It wasn't a great combination. There is also no arguing the fact that Hamlin is playing much better football overall the last few weeks. He seems to have settled in and has been much better and not nearly the liability he was earlier in the season. All that said, having a guy like Hyde in the room, breaking down film and offering every bit of advice he has to offer to Hamlin and Rapp can only be seen as an awesome thing whether he ever plays a down for us this year or not. His experience and leadership is only another positive to be added to the great vibes that are already around this team. And if an injury happens and we are in a pinch, there is nobody else I would rather have sitting in the wings to fill in during an emergency situation than a guy like Hyde that has given everything he has for this franchise for so long and someone who will lay it all on the line for this team to win a Super Bowl if his number is called. Welcome back, Micha! Go Bills! 2 Quote
Andrew Son Posted December 4 Posted December 4 1 minute ago, Back2Buff said: The first question with the signing of Hyde is the role he'll have on the team. The safety duo of Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp has been a success, so opting to shake that up as a 10-2 team in the stretch run before the playoffs would seem like an odd choice. McDermott was quick to address it. "I say this respectfully, very little," McDermott said when asked what the expectations should be of Hyde. "We're in a good spot, you know, very confident in the guys that have played there all season long, and done it, done both. They're done a nice job, as I said a few minutes ago. 'Very little' from the standpoint of just managing expectations, is why I'm saying that, right? 'Very little' from, hey, 'you're going to come in and you're going to play and you're going to help,' no, let's just take it one day at a time, and let's, number one, make sure everybody understands what his role is right now, and we'll just see. We'll just take it one day at a time. Bills' head coach Sean McDermott answers burning questions about the return of Micah Hyde and his role on the team (atozsports.com) Answering a question about managing expectations is very different that saying we will see very little of him. 1 Quote
Magox Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Having his locker room presence, leadership and depth will be a welcome addition to this team as it heads down the stretch. 1 Quote

Man with No Name Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Hamlin's improving, but i don't think he's fixed his problem with angles. I will 100% feel better with Hyde back there if we have to go against a team like Baltimore again. Having Milano won't hurt either!!! 1 1 Quote
Rocky Landing Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Not to change the subject, but I wonder what's up with Lewis Cine? Seemed like a hopeful acquisition when we signed him to the PS, and he's still there. I had expected to see him called up at some point. Quote

bills_fan Posted December 4 Posted December 4 He will be starting soon. And we will see a big upgrade. Quote
mikemac2001 Posted December 4 Posted December 4 They had this planned it was pretty clear if he could come back they would take him and makes sense later in the year so he can be fresh for the playoffs Quote

He plays soundly within the system and for the most part does what he is supposed to do. I equate Hamlin's play to that of Mark Kelso during the early 90s. He does a serviceable job but he doesn't impact the game. If Micah Hyde is healthy and in shape, he impacts the game. 5 3 Quote

He is the guy who guards the flag in capture the flag. Decent backup...don't get beat deep, keep the ball in front of you yada, yada...but he is not a playmaker. Hyde can be a playmaker back there. Not buying it. Yep, McD is saying all the right things and Hyde is going to have to earn it and show he's still got it. But, IMO, the cream is going to rise to the top. 1 2 Quote

Our recent history of late season veteran practice squad additions (Devonta Freeman, Leonard Fournette, etc) doesn't suggest to me that his being elevating and taking away a starter's spot is imminent. IF Hamlin starts struggling over the next few weeks (and I don't mean playing at the level he's been playing at recently, I mean ACTUALLY struggling), then I can see them elevating Hyde and starting him. Ditto if there's an injury. Otherwise? I don't expect McDermott to break up the starting safety duo. Just my opinion. 1 Quote

He's played behind a porous DL, backup LB's and run avoiding CBs Hyde will get time but I'd make him a package player. And I'd have him ready against Detroit if possible with limited time the last 3 weeks. He is smart enough to matchup against smart QB's. You can't fool him. But, Hamlin should start. Is the Hyde package similar to the Joe Webb package? Quote
