If he does go back into coaching my guess is Dallas. The Cowboys have some talent, and he probably thinks he could win there sooner than later. I don't see him signing up for a rebuild at his age by going to the Jets or Giants where it will take some time to turn it around. 1 Quote

The Firebaugh Kid Posted December 4 Posted December 4 That's a remarkable accomplishment. CRAZY really. It's almost mathematically impossible for this team to NOT make a Superbowl, and SOON. I see a different TEAM this year, and I think they're going all the way. 1 Quote

Jerry is getting up there and wants to win one more while he still has time. Maybe would do his best to try and make it work. I think McCarthy is definitely getting fired so the Cowboys will be looking for a new HC. Quote

The rest of those guys did it with a 16-game season (or less). I was going to say this. I'm a big McDermott supporter, but the 17 game schedule makes that a tad easier. I wish the NFL would have stuck with 16 games and not added more playoff teams. That was the perfect format. 1 2 Quote

The Patriots had a bye as the #2 seed four times during their run before the second bye was taken away. Edited December 4 by BRH 1 1 Quote
DaBillsFanSince1973 Posted December 4 Posted December 4 praised yet ridiculed by fans. you can post all the success he has had and it will still come down to winning in the playoffs and advancing to the sb. if he doesn't do that for some, he and all his success will go along the wayside. 1 Quote

Even the best teams in the NFL only have a small chance of getting to and winning a superbowl. That's just how it is. You get into the playoffs and you try to go on a run. You need a little luck, too. Nobody should ever expect a superbowl because superbowls are not ever likely. Hoping for one makes sense. Believing that you have a shot at it because of the team, the QB, etc. makes sense. But expecting one is never wise. 3 1 1 Quote
Blank Stare Posted December 4 Posted December 4 I’ve been critical of McD in the past, but there’s no disputing his regular season success. A ton of luck goes into reaching, let alone winning a Super Bowl, but championships are how these guys are typically judged. I hope he gets the breaks and finally gets his. 1 2 1 Quote

Most of the really good teams - Miami, Pittsburgh, Oakland - were in the AFC during that run (1976-1980). Only the Rams were comparable to the Cowboys over that stretch in the NFC until the Eagles emerged in 1980. By contrast, McDermott has been in the better conference pretty much his entire run IMO. Yeah, he did it in an era when there was only 14 games for most of his career, although the final couple of years it switched to 16. 41 minutes ago, Blank Stare said: I’ve been critical of McD in the past, but there’s no disputing his regular season success. He's had success in the playoffs too, though. The Bills have won at least one playoff game every year for the past handful of years. Only the Chiefs and the Bills have done that. 3 Quote
