[Unsubstantiated] Rumors of Micah Hyde's imminent return

There have been several Bills analysts in the Twitter blog-o-sphere dropping hints the past day or two about Micah Hyde's imminent return.

No one has provided specific details yet. Everyone is being vague and just posting GIFs and hush-hush "don't be surprised" type comments.

I'm curious to know everyone's position on this possibility.

Me? I tend to think that if he's coming back to join the practice squad, provide veteran leadership, depth if needed, and be along for a potential run to a Lombardi trophy, then great. If the idea is that he's going to come in and usurp one of the starters or take up a valuable roster spot, I'm not so sure. The Rapp-Hamlin thing has been working well, and even if they DO want to try someone else out at safety, I'd rather see Cole Bishop or Lewis Cine get those reps.

I'm fine with Hyde returning and providing some intangible locker room and leadership spark, but after this much time sitting at home, it's hard to imagine him coming in and contributing in a major way.

No way he could come back and take over a starting role. He would need weeks to get into game shape and to get back anywhere near where he was before.

 

If anything, it would be like you say: to grab a spot on the practice squad, provide some leadership (though at this point in the season, do they really need it?), and be a "break glass in case of emergency" player. Maybe have him around so he gets one last shot at a ring as a backup?

Hamlin is not great but he is not horrible.. And he has had a nice improvement over the year. I think we good. 
 

Logic i 100% respect the work you put in around here... But  I hate roomers. We get stuck with them... they go 100 pages long and then die out to nothing lol. BUT AGAIN! TBH?  I don't think this happens. Our defense is doing so well because of the speed we have on the back end. As much as i loved Poyer/Hyde.. many times they would take initial crap angles at open players and did not have the speed to make up for it.  TBH.. If they do bring Hyde back? I hope its for a backup roll or for 3 Safety looks against good passing teams.

This sounds right. It's a win-win: Hyde gets to rejoin a playoff team with a real chance of going all the way, and the Bills get the veteran presence you mention, along with quality depth in case Hamlin goes down. I agree it's unlikely he'll replace Hamlin. That wouldn't send a very good message, since Hamlin is doing fine and has been a good soldier. Plus, Hyde is about to turn 34 and hasn't played in quite awhile.

I’ve seen Cole Bishop play safety.  I have every hope in the world that he’s going to be the guy one day once he gets more accustomed to the Bills system and the NFL speed difference.  But from what I’ve seen he’s not ready yet.
 

 I’d be happy for them to bring Hyde back just as an insurance policy.  God forbid something happens to Hamlin would be nice to have Hyde in game shape allowing us to not miss a step.  But that’s all I would want him as….just a depth piece.  The team right now is cohesive and winning football games I wouldn’t want to mess up that chemistry.

Definitely possible but they’re also going to have to make some moves for the imminent returns of Carter and Grable.

I have no idea why Joe Buscaglia wrote an article saying now is the time for him to come back.

As much as I’d rather have Hyde in the lineup over Hamlin, you can’t do it at this point. It’d be a bad look for the Bills to bench a healthy guy who’s been there since day 1: participated every day of OTAs, training camp and has started every game thus far. If you bring him in, I agree, it’s for an advisory role, but Hyde has been on record as saying he’s not interested in coaching players.

I bring him back... let him get his feet wet in practice so that if there is an injury i feel more comfortable bringing him in.  Rapp plays with an edge and already had a concussion this year so another might be a long-term absence, and i think mcdermott would feel more comfortable with him in there than bishop at the moment.

I think if Micah comes back it’s because Bishop isn’t ready yet. Not to replace Hamlin or Rapp

I don't think he wanted too. But obviously with the stingers he can't play an entire season. 

 

Come playoff time he's the perfect center fielder to get ints 

We need him for depth at the minimum. I agree with everyone here that Bishop is a nice prospect but he's not really ready. Similar to Bernard in 22

yeah they were talking about this on WGR this morning.  Interesting to think about if Hyde, as he is right now (or will be in a few weeks) is straight up better than Hamlin or Bishop in their current forms.  I lean towards “no”… but I dunno nuthin’.

Hyde never retired. He's contact was up, didn’t get an offer he liked, so he's working out with a personal trainer all the time in La Jolla waiting for his phone to ring
