Chugga Posted December 9 Posted December 9 I’ve got a post on the first page of this thread saying how I wouldn’t give up on McDermott. And I won’t as long as he’s here. But todays loss felt AWFUL because it felt like our coaching staff thought their way of playing was superior and instead of changing and adapting to what they saw they decided to double down. I just watched a game where a defensive specialist head coach just had his defense give up 44 points and forced only 1 meaningful punt. 1 Quote

TheFunPolice Posted December 9 Posted December 9 I had forgotten how infuriating McDermott's blunders are. Sure, he is good enough to win a super bowl of we can get there. But there's the rub. You could replace the AFC champions with the Browns and it would still be a hell of a super bowl Quote

Part of his opening statement - "I would have liked to see us run the ball a bit more with our RBs." And now he is trying to defend the end of game timeout saying "we thought that was our best course of action." Please get him out of here! I'd be fine even if it happened tomorrow and Brady took over. My jaw is on the floor with this press conference. McD has talked about this now during the tenure of the last 3 OC's he hired. This loss, isolated to one week of the regular season isn't impossible to stomach. Playing on the left coast has always been an issue for east coast teams. But as you've alluded to, there are matters which aren't addressed which appear against above average teams which portend what we inevitably witness in the post-season. HC is married to his philosophy and will never change. And, he has failed to raise his coaching acumen to a level which parallels the abilities of his QB. 2 1 1 Quote

I fear we'll rue the day Harbaugh ended up in Las Diego with the Chargers. Quote
CincyBillsFan Posted December 9 Posted December 9 I remain agnostic towards McD. You can't deny the winning culture he has built in Buffalo: * 6 straight 10 win seasons * 5 straight 11 win seasons (I'm assuming we win at least 1 more game) * 5 straight division titles * 4 straight seasons winning at least 1 playoff game and likely soon to be 5. These are not small things particularly with respect to the 18 lost years before McD showed up. BUT............................. To many times McD has messed up the end of a game at a critical moment; and his expertise is the defense and it's been repeated defensive collapses which have prevented the Bills from advancing to the Super Bowl. So I remain in a wait & see mind set. McD has done a great job this year and if this loss was a one off I can live with it. Quote

Allen might have 5 really good yrs left in him and that is what people need to really start thinking about, including Pegula. Edited December 9 by Real McClappy 1 Quote
colin Posted December 9 Posted December 9 I'm mad at McStupid for being a clown today, and I've been vocal about his stubborn crap (like playing a Milano who is not ready) that loses us games, but I'm in the same place as before :win it And you're close to a forever coach. Another playoff bounce on the back of trash d, and you have to go 1 Quote
Bermuda Triangle Posted December 9 Posted December 9 After today, yes, my opinion has changed. Time to move on. Nice guy, but he’s wasted enough of Allen’s career. Quote
Livinginthepast Posted December 9 Posted December 9 When I saw this thread last week, I thought yeah maybe I can forgive the mistakes of the past he is coming into his own but the horrendous defensive game plan today, the lack of adjustments and then that Time out after the sneak was absolutely ridiculous. I am firmly back to the position I have had since 13 seconds. The Bills will win a SB despite McD never because of him. He cannot think on his feet and like a bad chess player or kid playing checkers, he doesnt think a few moves ahead ever! Quote

If we exit the division round again, I'm hiring Ben Johnson immediately. Sean's game management is atrocious. Quote
Mikie2times Posted December 9 Author Posted December 9 (edited) It was never as good as some made it out to be and it’s not as bad now. The point of this thread is we have been here for several years now and it was as if the last 3 years just erased itself with another promising regular season start. Beat the Chiefs? Well, we have also done that each of those years. Super Bowl favorites? Yup, we have done that before as well. As others have pointed out, it takes 4 straight wins in the playoffs to win a Super Bowl if you don’t get the bye. How is this team capable of 3 closely contested games against KC, Baltimore, Houston, Pittsburgh, Chargers, and Denver? All anybody says is KC, but think about 3 straight wins vs that group? KC is only one of them. Our team, in the history of the McD era, has nothing to show it’s capable of that type of stretch. In many ways we are just looking for one singular win against a non wild card contender in the playoffs. But….But….But….Baltimore with Greg Roman in a wind tunnel?!!! That is what we have. Our greatest win after 5 consecutive divisional titles. One divisional playoff win. Then early exit after early exit justified by the greatness of a player that everybody on this forum says is not as great as our QB. Year after year, we underperform our advanced rankings. Then watch as our defense get completely outclassed. If you point it out you’re a “McD” hater. Whatever the hell that means. Anti Bills, not an actual fan, far worse if you ask a few in this thread. Read this thread and you will find it all. Maybe most of us are just tired of the regular season championships. The defensive collapses. The late game mismanagement. It’s non stop and never ending, masked by divisional titles against 3rd tier teams and a hall of fame QB cleaning up the bulk of it all. Perhaps the most hilarious take in this thread is Sean developed Allen. I guess we can just give the HC credit for QB success even if he has zero history coaching any offensive skill positions. I’m sure it was McD going over Josh’s footwork, mechanics, and reads as a younger player grilling him to be more like the players he’s never coached before. Edited December 9 by Mikie2times 2 2 Quote
Bill51390 Posted December 9 Posted December 9 If we lose in the playoffs in another one of these games, we really need to consider moving on. He’s a good coach, but if he can’t figure it out by now in these close games than he’s not the answer. 1 Quote

Funny but the odds of a blocked punt or punt return for a TD were slim there. It was practically over when they called the time out on the failed QB sneak on 1st and goal. 1 Quote

Tom Brady was right. 2 straight tush pushes and burning a stupid TO was terrible. After the Cooper DPI, Joe should've called 4 straight option throws for Josh from the 1. Throw it or let Josh roll out and run it in. 1 Quote
