I feel like prior to the season starting the general vibe around here could fit into four categories

1. Some posters discussed the risk of changing a HC

2. Some felt he would ultimately figure out his postseason issues

3. Some felt his regular season success was enough so far and if nothing else that should buy him more time

4. Some felt he never would figure it out in the postseason and it was a lost cause

I was a #4 (go figure) and still remain in the last group. While thrilled at what we have done this year as I have hope I didn't expect to arrive at this season, nothing we did in the regular season would be able to change where I land in that grouping. We have just been too good in the regular season and that isn't where my concern is.  With all that said, I get a sense that I'm a minority at this point. That based on this years performance McD has largely quieted group #4 and most posters have now shifted into 1, 2, or 3 or at least a combination of them.

So I guess it's a two part question here...

1. Has the season so far resulted in you shifting from one of the groupings to another?

2. If we lose in the divisional round or earlier will that dramatically impact your perception of Sean and how this season has gone?

I have not wavered in my appreciation for both Coach McDermott and GM Beane. We are blessed to be able to enjoy this era of Bills and I don't respect the writings of those who want to tear our coach's great work down.

No, and no.  Not a fan, won't be unless he brings a Lombardi to Buffalo.  I have a hard time believing that a guy who challenged a 7 yard pass that didn't even result in a first down, in the first quarter, won't have another brain cramp at a critical time.  Challenging the 9 yard incompletion on first down last year against Denver cost us the game when we didn't have that timeout to kill the FG with 12 on the field.  He chokes in close games.

Flame away.

One thing has never changed.  I love McDermott as a human being and as a coach of men.  I will never say anything bad about him as a person or as a leader.

But, my opinion has changed from earlier this year.  After the Ravens and Texans loss I was admittedly pretty fired up about things.

I have on a number of occasions (after coaching blunders) felt as if we had potentially hit a glass ceiling with him.  That feeling remains in the back of my mind.  But I also look at the rosters of the Eagles, Chiefs, Ravens etc and we don’t have that same level of talent but he’s consistently gotten the very best out of everyone.  I want so badly for his defense to finally click one of these years in the playoffs and have him get his signature playoff win.  It just hasn’t happened yet, most of our playoff wins feel like the Josh Allen show and our losses feel like McDermott let down the Josh Allen show.

But seeing him make snow angels and watching this team completely rally behind him after last years hit piece.  I just want so badly for him to win.

Nope, no change.  I've never thought McDermott was perfect, but he's better than most coaches in the NFL.  If Buffalo changed head coaches, the odds of the Bills being able to hire a new head coach who is superior to McDermott are less that 50%.  How much less?  I don't really know, but I have not wanted to take that chance and I would still rather the Bills stay the course.  I don't think it is a given that McDermott can't guide the Bills to an AFC championship and even a Super Bowl win.

I was never that down on him - but he's been outstanding this season.  He should be one of the finalists for coach of the year given that most expected this team to take a step back.

I don't think he's a top 5 coach in the league, but he's one of the better ones.  Coaching in the NFL in general is pretty bad.

He's become a pretty likeable, father like character. What's been odd to me about this subject is it really seems as if his biggest supporters feel as though his detractors actually want him to fail. That is so silly to me. No Bills fan on the planet would want an opinion of a coach to be correct more than they want to win a Super Bowl. I REALLY want him to get it done because he's a very loyal and likeable person. Deserve is a fairly loaded word, but if anybody does, he does. But as I said, I promised I wouldn't let regular season success romance me away from my thoughts.

We will see.....

Been in group #4 since 13 seconds unfortunately.

1. No

2. No. It would just further prove #4 and I hope I am wrong.

I don't know how old folks typically are here, but I'm old enough to have followed the Bills through most of the team's existence. This regime is as good if not better than we've ever had. You can cling to your negatives if you want. We are in the Golden Age of Bills football. Appreciate it. It's not going to be this way forever. Look at New England.

Yes we are.  These are the "good old days".  I stick with Beane and McDermott.

I've got a toe in option 2, and 9 others in option 4.

if we go far in the playoffs, and don't just have defensive blunders and poor preparation, then I'll prolly fall fully into camp 2.

If we win a chip, then my theory (that he doesn't have the chops to beat the best in the playoffs) will be disproven by the evidence (a Lombardi trophy and history naming bills as the champion of 2024/2025 for all to see forever) and I will say it would take massive and consistent failure for me to want him removed, if ever.

I've always said as long as he consistently punches the lottery ticket that is the playoffs he deserves to be the head coach.  No.  It hasn't changed at all.

Nope, not changed at all. Always appreciated his leadership and the culture he built. If anything I appreciate it more.

I've never understood the outright hate and "fire him" takes some people have. Questions I understand, but the animosity blows my mind.
