Mexican might be a good choice. Plenty of amazing culinary influences in the L.A. area coming from south of the border.

...And I don't mean McCormick's Taco-seasoned ground beef with Kraft cheddar cheese.

There may be some great food from Mexico but the crap that has been American Adopted is NOT something that I am a fan of.

The local ‘7 Tequilas’-style neighborhood Mexican restaurants are the hamburger helper version of authentic south of the border cuisine.
Nothing great, but still a notch above the places with drive-thru food options.  With a Bogo coupon or taco Tuesdays I can get an inexpensive meal and have leftovers for lunch.  It’s a night off from cooking and clean up at home.
Oddly, some of the better wings I’ve gotten locally were at the casual dining Mexican restaurants here.

Really?

I have heard of good chicken wings sometimes being available in some Chinese Restaurants up here given they can certainly deep fry in peanut oil at incredible temps.

It is a brave new world I guess.

Hey now, for some of us when you walked in the door from school in the 80’s and mom was making these tacos you describe, your day instantly took a turn for the better. Ha

Yes. I've gotten some decent wings at Asian restaurants. They actually fry them crispy without having to send the rubbery-skinned ones back. Now, if they'd just learn to discard the tip and separate the flats from the drums. 🙂

I suspect most of mom's go-to recipes originated from the red-plaid-covered Betty Crocker cook book or the latest trendy meal published in the Food sections of the Courier Express or Buffalo Evening News. Creamed chipped-beef on toast was an occasional economy choice. She meant well.

I had a Betty Crocker cook book in my early 20's and it was indeed red.

I can't remember the plaid part however I did smoke a lot of weed during my undergraduate years.

I believe I borrowed the recipe for Peach Flambe from that book which I used to make quite often when I owned my own flambe table.

A very solid cookbook for beginners.

Assume you dog-eared the 'brownies' page in the dessert section. 😁

Actually the meat from a ram [mature male sheep] is called Mutton.  Not a dish for the faint of heart.

Kickin' it Middle Earth style. I'm no troll.

Mexican sounds fun. It's cold up here in CNY so some spicy hot something is ideal. Ohhh and tequila.

It's cold and I haven't made it yet this season, so I'm going to make a big pot of Chili with some fresh Italian bread and a few shots of Don Julio.

Maybe that's more Tex Mex but there have to be one or two people of Mexican descent in LA. Chili Dogs are apparently an LA thing, maybe I'll get some Zweigles.
