Hamlin is playing good.  Making tackles and around the ball.  He should be celebrated.  Nearly dying and 2 years later the starter and playing at a pro bowl level.  He isn't dynamic or a big hitter.  Just where he should be and getting his mitts on footballs.  Made Edwards expendable and keeping a high pick on the bench.  Dude is not just a feel good story anymore, he is also a good player.

I had serious doubts he would make the 53-man roster.  So good for him.  But he's no Da'Rick.

Surely this point has been made already, but how great would it be for Hamlin to actually make the Pro Bowl, and then for some dumb team to sign him to a big contract so we can promote Bishop AND get compensated for it.

He was shaky during the first third of the season, but he's steadily improved to the point where he doesn't stick out as being a weakness. Not a Pro Bowl quality player, but certainly an acceptable starter on the back end.

While I don't disagree with your point, he is certainly our worst starter on defense right now, so it is funny he leads the league in votes.

He's definitely shooting more and tackling better.  The tentativeness feels like it is gone, but he still isn't a particularly explosive athlete.

Strongly disagree with this assessment. He’s a JAG out there and has given up big plays due to being slow in recognition and foot speed. Rapp is playing at near a pro bowl level, that guy has single-handedly prevented quite a few TDs from happening. Not true with Damar.

Hamlin is Joe B’s next to last rated qualifying player and is more of a feel good story than an impact defender. No ill will towards the guy, I love that he’s fully back from his scare, but he 100% needs to be upgraded in the offseason.

Hamlin is a big reason why the Bills are the best tackling secondary in the NFL against passes.

Not saying he can't be upgraded, but he isn't as bad as you are making him out to be. He has been a fantastic tackler.

5 Ravens on here. The 7-5 Ravens.

Without looking

Jackson

Henry

Likely

Linderbaum

Hamilton

And ravens fans still writing in Ray Lewis because for some reason the organization clings to him for identity.

He has been mostly a sure tackler but just a split second late on a lot of plays as @Brand J stated.   He has exceeded my expectations of him this year however.  Beginning of the season I thought he would be a complete liability out there but he has held his own.   Not ready to anoint him a pro bowler yet though.

No...for sure he isn't a pro bowler. But he is far better than I, or most people thought he would be.

He won the job in camp and rightly so.

Talent evaluators don't go by pro bowl votes.  Hamlin is a really nice story but he's an average to below average safety

Regardless if your ready he is well on his way.  Is he playing like peak Hyde or Poyer?  No.  I think he is playing above average for the position.  He is not starting because of a make a wish.  He held off Edward and Bishop with his play this year.

You'd have to go back DECADES to get past the popularity contest.

How many times did Ruben Brown get voted onto the PB team? How many times did he really deserve it vs that was the only Guard name people recognized?

Heck, my dad and I had a theory that it was defensive players voting for him just to keep him around longer.

Ruben Brown was terrific. He's way underestimated.

Yah, he used to drive me crazy with false starts but the man was an absolute road grader.

Certainly popularity contest is part of it. But year after year after year if you lined up the Pro Bowl lineup, they'd have been an absolutely ferocious scary lineup.

Does Hamlin deserve it, though? Nope. Playing pretty good this year, he's taken a real leap upwards, but not at a Pro Bowl level.

Still a terrific lineup there, though.

Jayden Daniels Over Josh Allen is all you need to know about the Vote.

Turning into the Toilet Bowl.

He's NFC, different team.

And folks need to remember that the list is only TOP vote getters for each Conference. So Lamar is currently #1 in the AFC, with likely Mahomes and Allen behind him and on the team.

The team which none of them will actually play for and it will end up being Tua and Russell Willson on the AFC team.

Ruben always had lavish pro-bowl parties in Hawaii.  That kept his voters for years!
