In all fairness safety play has been seemingly down this season at least at FS.  Jevon Holland plays on a team with no fight.  Minkah who is usually a shoe in at FS plays on a top defense but he’s been remarkably quiet compared to his normal production.

Despite Bills fans opinions Hamlin has been one of the steadier and reliable FS’s in the AFC this year.

How does Sean McDermott not get coach of the year for having very few pro bowlers or NFL top 100 players and yet having one of the best offenses and defenses in the NFL every year?

This just makes me more curious. How do they do the math?

The math isn't hard. If a player gets 25% of the popular vote, 20% of the player vote, and 15% of the coach vote, you multiply each by 33.3% and add them together for the percentage. That works out to 19.998%.

Kurt Schulz was a young safety also drafted in the 6th rd and was a bench player from 92-94. 3 yrs. In 95 he broke out like Hamlin is.

Usually if a team is the one seed like buffalo probably will be, that team gets awarded with pro bowl votes

You'd have to go back DECADES to get past the popularity contest.

How many times did Ruben Brown get voted onto the PB team? How many times did he really deserve it vs that was the only Guard name people recognized?

Heck, my dad and I had a theory that it was defensive players voting for him just to keep him around longer.

That is the "popular" opinion of many, however incorrect it may be. Ruben Brown played a lot of very good football for the Bills, period.

THIS

 Always cheer for the Players

Bills are All pretty darned good guys these days and decent players from bottom to top. Want the best for each and all

 Go Bills

Exactly.

I wonder what it's like to go to work everyday, work your ass off, only to be criticized by "fans" online who usually are a little ignorant as to what's really going on on the field, and off.

I see a player who has come a LONG was, given all circumstances, and now he's selected as a Pro Bowler, only to be ***** on by so-called "fans".

He is playing much better, you're right I need to be less of a dick sometimes.

Props for being self aware.  I say that without sarcasm.

I'm rooting for our dog Damar.  Why?  Cause he's on our team and he's out there kicking ass FOR US (well, and a paycheck!)

Hamlin?........i'm going to be the first one to say it, that no one and i mean no one, saw that coming.

I guess their basis of standards has hit an all-time low.

Good on the man, but like, come on now.....

And then for there to be no mention of Josh and Hamlin being chosen over him ---- OKAY ...

He should just be thankful that we haven’t listened to the folks around here who want him fired! He can take that and be happy with it!

Well.. it is a popularity contest now like school counsel LOL... so...why not... let the man be popular... no one is under the illusion anymore that the best players go to the pro bowl... so why not.. we have plenty of players that lose out cause they arent popular or are not in a big market... so, hey good for him... if Tremaine Edmunds can get voted in LOL... why not #3

I really don't understand the negativity towards Damar from fans around the country, but more importantly from Bills fans. He's a Buffalo Bill...why are so many people so down on him? Why aren't you just rooting for him like any other Bills player? It's got to be something psychological. I don't care whether he is worthy of a Pro-Bowl or not, but this season-long narrative that he sucks or is only starting because he's a good story is getting old, especially when he is playing well.

I mean, please show me or point out to me all of these big plays that he has given up. And then how many of them have cost us games or whatever? I just don't get it. Is he an All-Pro? No. But he's playing pretty darn well for a 6th rounder who was groomed in McD's system. And he now has 25 starts in the league.

Damar's stats for 2024

70 tackles (2nd on the team)

51 solo tackles

2 TFLs

2 (should be 3) INTs

5 passes defended

1 fumble recovery

1 QB hit

He is 10th among safeties in solo tackles (out of what, like 64 safeties?). And as a free safety, not a strong safety (though in McD's system, they are a bit interchangeable). And considering that he's generally the last line of defense, that's at least 51 times this season he helped the team out. He is a very sure tackler and he's not afraid of contact. Does he have elite size and speed? No...that's why he was a 6th rounder. But, he's getting the job done, imo. He held off Mike Edwards, he's held off 2nd round pick Cole Bishop. And we all know that McD doesn't just hand out starting positions, you have to earn it.

[Per Pro-Football Reference]

The Bills are 6th against the pass (yards), tied for 8th in passing TDs allowed

The Bills are 18th against the run (yards), but tied for 3rd in rushing TDs allowed

The Bills are tied for 5th overall in points allowed

The Bills are tied for 8th in Red Zone defense

The Bills are 9th in total yards allowed

If Damar was such a weak link, wouldn't he get picked on all of the time by our opponents? And if that were the case, shouldn't our defensive numbers be a lot worse? Could we really be a top 10 defense with a safety who sucks?

Again, I'm not saying that he is or should be a Pro-Bowler, but it's at least time that Bills fans started giving him some props for his contributions to the team this year.

I think all too often people on this forum just need someone to complain about.  Hamlin is that guy, currently.  There’s really not a lot of sense to it.  But there’s always gotta be at least one.

that and people like names they can remember and stick around and have staying power.

when you hear a name over and over again and it's notable it helps. like in any selection process- if you have a name people recognize or can remember you're far more likely to win.
