It appears that the mother intially made this out to be some type of hit job by an aggressive mob of Bills fans, and now the husband is trying to clear everything up.  Drunk, inconsiderate fans are obnoxious and I am certainly not making any excuses for them.  Should you be shocked that you encountered one at an NFL night game during a blizzard? Probably not.  Sadly, If you are concerned about your small child in a crowd of 70,000, you should probably get seats in the family section.

*The fact that WIVB denigrates "the mafia" while shining a positive light on Antonio Brown is perhaps the most egregious act of all.

It is difficult to differentiate the two because the husband and wife have a combined social media account.

I hope I'm wrong, but this story will continue to grow...expect a TMZ "exposé" in the coming days and the national networks to pick this up.  If the news cycle becomes slow, this could make it to the top of many broadcasts.  The day time shows, Kelly Clarkson, etc. will eat this up.

Hopefully the story will be that the mother's inaccurate, inflammatory "thrown down the stairs" BS has been debunked for the lie that it is

I would think at that point the stadium would make video available that shows the incident.  It will likely show a drunk football fan stumbling down snow covered stairs and the outrage will be dampened. Anyone that has been to a large sporting event will not be shocked.

Based on the WIVB story it sounds a lot like a drunk guy said "I'm going down the stairs" and then he did. The little girl was bumped and fell into someone's lap. Something like this happens every football game I'd imagine without a news story. Is it rude to bump people as you go down the stairs? Yes, especially children. Did "Bills Mafia" decide as a group to grab this girl and throw her off the upper deck as portrayed initially? No...

Not sure if this makes me an a** lol but this new story still sounds like a bit of an exaggeration to me although I’m sure it’s much closer to the truth than before

most logical thing to me is the bills fan took a jab at the 49ers fans when asking them to move, the girl knew he wanted to get by so she stood against a chair as close as she could to let him by, guy was drunk so he wobbled a bit which caused her to safely fall into the chair she was right in front of.

I don’t think the niners fans heard someone was trying to get by them and just stood in the way that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me

Jeez, stop referencing the Mafia with every story.  That phrase has to be used by every single national media person talking about the Bills.  It's enough already.

Many Bills fans proudly identify with the term, fact is it’s widely promoted. It's a permanent label.

…..like it or not.

It also sounds like the mom is angling for money.  She over emphasizes the girl just survived cancer a little too much.

As a dad of 3, grandfather of 7 and a cancer survivor myself, what the actual hell was the mom thinking having that little girl who just beat cancer, out in that s****y weather?

Yea I hate thinking it but what I think happened was they started the gofundme before the game and were planning on posting about how she beat cancer and had so much fun at her first nfl game knowing bills fans would donate…I’m 100% all for that and probably would have donated myself.

but they must’ve thought they’d get more views if they exaggerated a fan lightly brushing by them into a shove

that easily makes the most logical sense

Our section too.  It is always friendly ribbing.  People are always super cool with kids, especially when they are wearing opposing teams' gear.  Maybe it is because everything typically goes the Bills' way (I don't recall any nastiness in the past 2 home playoff losses).

Behavior in that stadium is in a different universe than it was 15-20 years ago.  There is a huge Erie County Sheriff presence, and I am sure technology is helping.  You see a swam of sheriffs before anything even happens.  I saw my a fight last week (Bills fan vs Bills fan), and we remarked it was the first fight we have seen in several years.  We are in the rockpile too.

i am with you. Now i am in the lower bowl on the 25, but I have not seen fight inside or outside of the stadium in at least 5 years. Completely different world than drought era games

Look at the crowd in any other NFL stadium. They are all seated while watching the game. That's what people expect at an NFL game, and what these parents expected when they decided to bring their kid to the game. Not so in Buffalo. The only purpose of the seats/benches at Highmark is to keep people from getting trampled like they used to in the terraces at English football matches.

tell me you have never been to a game after a major snow event without telling me. in 135, as I am sure in every section..aisle was somewhat clear when we got in, but there was zero down to clear either the seats or rows.

There was no sitting at the game, it was impossible

It seems like something similar.  The mom ran her mouth on social media and it got traction.  It was clear the story as she provided wasn't going to fly, and they walked it back.  I am sure there were people moving around and the girl may have gotten knocked into her seat.  It was happening to everyone.  Trying to stand and let someone through was a tight squeeze with all the layers and one time, my legs slipped out from under me and I went down to the bench hard, and accidentally kicked the person trying to get through.

They probably were annoyed with all the activity, standing, and rowdiness and one time maybe someone slipped or went through too quickly and Mia took a seat.  That was her "being pushed down stairs in section 312".  Mama exaggerated on social media.  Now they had to reel it back something closer to the real story to save face (and donations!).  The father added the comment the "assailant" made that "Im going to go through these 49er fans" because without that, its a comically nothing story/plight now.

Worst-case, this was planned for publicity and donations... but the evolution of the story makes me think it was just over-sharing for likes, emojis, and reactions on social media gone wrong.

If the family comes out and admits this was nothing, I will provide $100 to their preferred Cancer foundation.

Or as someone else mentioned - get tickets in the family section, or club section where rowdy behavior is less likely (but still not guaranteed not to happen).  It's not their fault some drunk guy was an a-hole near them and it is unfortunate it happened - but there are some steps you can take to insulate yourself.  Sure in an ideal world going to an NFL game would be like going to Disney World - but that's just not reality - at any NFL stadium.

I started taking my kids to games when they were 7-8 and knew the risks -  explained to them they might see some bad behavior and hear some bad things.  If they had just survived cancer I surely would have thought differently.  We take my Dad who is 90 now to games and only get club seats to shield him from most of the rowdiness.

My biggest problem and what seems to be lost in the reporting is that it 100% is NOT OK to then post a screed on social media with an outrageous lie negatively implicating an entire fanbase (and using your daughter's disease to amp up the reactions)

Drunk Bills fans shoved our daughter for wearing a 49ers hat. Source: trust me bro. Oh btw, here is our GoFundMe link.

I'm hearing from friends from out of state thinking this is true and that Buffalo is full of a-holes. I think they need to make it known that this did not happen as suggested and yes still a sad story about a kid with cancer but not a kid that was assaulted for supporting the wrong team.

Even locally.  Like WIVB on facebook.  The headline still reads that the girl was pushed down the section/stairs, you have to read the article about mostly her back-story, then you get to a quick blurb where the father kind of vaguely explained the shoddy story of what transpired (which objectively seems like no big deal)... then the rollout of their gofundme "family fund"

All confirmation bias is rampant.  "All Bills fans are scumbags".  "Nothing but blackout drunks there haven't been to a game in 30 years" etc.  Not to mention people are rushing to give these people money.

I really take pride in our fan base and atmosphere.  That is why this hits deep.

shocking the go fund me now has $22K in it...prolly 99% of which would not be there except for this story. And attention ho's in Buffalo that just need  the attention of "getting this out".

I mean damn, I feel awful for any kid that has had to battle cancer, but this whole thing just smells like a setup to generate $$$$.

I have not seen one single person who witnessed this in person beside the family....and trust me, if this happened someone would be on the internet or on the phone to the TV stations to get their 15 minutes as well.

Trust your instincts on this one, its  a made-up story, or at the very least HIGHLY exaggerated accounting of an accidental bump on a snowy as hell day in a stadium to generate clicks and $$$. Someone said dad was a marine...dude hits your 8 year old and you ain't shouting back and making fuss at the least? Most likely swinging?

And their first post said they were dealing with the police and leaving early...have any  "journalists" reached out to Bills security to get get a comment?

Where is dad posting this?  The mom’s account made this seem that it was a targeted attack

Maybe next time a drunk fan won’t just barrel his way through the aisle then and knock an 8 year old girl over on his way to piss and get more beer.
