The TD's are a pretty big deal tho, right?

He has 4 TD's in 4 games.  Buffalo doesn't have a WR with more than 3 all year.

And yet the Bills have scored the highest ppg in the AFC. Who the heck cares about what MVS is doing?

I wanna show you all guys something.

Here is Josh's passer rating by field position chart from 2023.  We see he's way above average with the deep ball on the R side, average on the L.

Here is Paddy Mahomes passer rating by field position chart, again from 2023 with MVS on his team.  Average on the R side, well below league average on the L.

Just maybe, defenses cover teams with elite QB differently, in a manner which makes those Go routes (already low percentage throws) more difficult to complete?

Just maybe, defenses aren't scared of Derek Carr's arm, but they are trying to shut down Kamera?

Josh's first couple seasons, teams weren't so much afraid of his arm - with reason.  He was rocking a completion % less than 60% and throwing for <200 ypg.

By mid-season 2020, that changed.

Great post!

Well obviously he didn’t fit our scheme & we didn’t necessarily scheme to his strengths.  Not saying he’s a wr1 / 2 but he had some success in KC and appears to be having success in NO.  I don’t necessarily think his abbreviated stay and lack of numbers in Buffalo was all his doing.

Just a little note that in KC in 2023, MVS had 21 receptions in the regular season, and 1 TD.  So he kind of lacked numbers last year in KC as well.

It may be valid that he didn't fit our scheme and we didn't scheme to his strengths, but there's also the point that our scheme has to account for how opponents play us.

As of last night, Buffalo now has a receiver with 4 TD.   Mack Hollins.

You tell me, is that a big deal?

MVS is having a productive run in New Orleans.  Why couldn’t we have made better use of him in our scheme?

Why would we have too is the question. Obviously others were out playing him in this scheme and deserve more playing time. The only stat that really counts is the win loss record, the Bills and Allen are playing their best ball without him and with injuries to boot. Even with players going down others have stepped up so MVS was not needed here.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling - Snap Count with Bills

Week 1 13 21%

Week 2 4 9%

Week 3 49 77%

Week 4 25 42%

Week 5 28 46%

Week 6 22 32%

Week 7 0%

Week 8 0%

Marquez Valdes-Scantling - Snap Count with Saints

Week 9 32 41%

Week 10 29 55%

Week 11 39 65%

Week 13 53 76%

Its possible that the Bills thought our other WRs are better, his snap count was terrible at times.

I mean more tds are great and all but we aren't exactly struggling to score being 4th in points scored so far this year.

He never realistically pushed anyone on the depth chart all summer.  Signed in May, nothing out of camp stuck out, and he couldn't beat out coleman and hollins for snaps.  I'd have to say at least... some of that - was his doing.

Because Josh’s deep ball has sucked for over a year. He’s missed wide open guys more often than not on the deeper routes.

It's true.

Also MVS stepped right into the vertical role Shaheed had in their O before he got injured.  We just don't feature that type of play as much and Josh isn't as accurate on those throws as Carr.
