I know that McConkey is more of a slot receiver when the Bills were looking for a bigger boundary WR, but man McConkey is playing well.  9 for 117 in just today’s game.  Watching his route running in the pre-draft process had me mesmerized by his cutting ability.  I’ve been wrong on draft prospects plenty, so I’m not claiming to be some draft genius, but I really liked him.

I agree, he was my # 1 guy who would be available but you couldn’t have a conversation around here last off-season if the name wasn’t Brian Thomas, Xavier Legette, or Adonai Mitchell with a little Xavier Worthy sprinkled in.

I honestly don’t believe the Bills cared a ton about size necessarily. They took the upside player in Coleman which isn’t surprising when you look at their draft history

Our DIL is a UGA grad and we live in Atlanta. I was a big McConky fan after seeing quite a bit of him. He’s just a football player. If our roster and needs had been different, I would not have minded finding a way to get him for the slot at the right price.

see: Khalil Shakir. I get it with the production as a rookie, but let's just see how Keon plays out as that is the next natural question.

Yeah-  McConkey was the guy I wanted when we were on the clock-  I saw him a can’t miss weapon- I was going to worry about who can play outside later.

I’ve changed my tune and I am all aboard the Keon train.  He’s a much better compliment to Shakir and, despite his 40 time, is a big play WR, that can make plays all over the field as well as dominate WRs in the run game.  Very happy about how this turned out. X

He is a great slot receiver. The Bills needed boundary help.

He is a good fit in that offense. Good luck to him.

He's a great fit in any offense. He's a guy who gets open at all levels. Guys his size can play outside. I know he's doing more in the slot in LA but it also makes sense when you spent a 1st rounder on Johnston the year before and got rid of Keenan Allen. We've long disagreed on this point though lol.

Yea I don't think he can play anything more than spot duty outside. Not about his size so much as about his skillset. Haven't seen anything to change my mind.

Eh. He was talked about plenty.

Oh I thought this was going to be about how the Chiefs are going to draw the Chargers minus Dobbins and McConkey.

Should be another fun one.

I mean he did injure his knee in the game ........ supposedly minor though

Pretty much everybody here loved Thomas and hated Coleman for the space between the Combine and the draft… also remember a few  that wanted to trade up multiple firsts and seconds to get Harrison or Odunze …lol

I really liked McConkey too …but Coleman seems to be working out as well … so can’t really complain …looks like they are committed now to paying Shakir a bag though …

Yea by me, @GASabresIUFan, and a couple others who were beating that drum very early only for the two small, injury prone narrative.

Ladd's ceiling isn't high enough.

I felt that way then and I feel that way now.

He's on pace for 79 catches and 1049 yards. That's a really good season for a rookie. IMO, it will likely be one of the best seasons of his career.

I wasn’t really lamenting that the Bills didn’t take him and I wasn’t arguing that Coleman hasn’t shown nice flashes.  I only meant to tip my hat to a rookie who is playing really well.

Yeah, I thought McConkey was pretty close to 'can't miss' and would be an excellent player in the NFL.  He was the player I would have selected at the time.  Some will say he's only a slot receiver,  and that may or may not be true,  but as weak as the Bills WRs seemed going into the draft,  I was more concerned that they got someone that could actually play than worry about position within the group.

Thankfully,  Coleman looks like he's going to be a good player in his own right.

If we didn’t have Shakir he would have been perfect in this offense

Agree. But you can find Tank Dells in the 3rd and Khalil Shakirs in the 5th.

It's why for me I wouldn't use a 1st round pick on a guy I thought was a slot only. I know in the end we didn't use a 1st round pick on anyone. But it is about the opportunity cost of not using 1st round picks on Quarterbacks or the guys who have to win 1v1s outside in the NFL- franchise LT, #1WR, #1CB, DE.

I had McConkey above Coleman fwiw, he was my WR8, Keon was WR9. But I wouldn't have spent a first round pick on either for different reasons.
