What success examples are there with situations like this? I mean I dont know a ton of examples off the top of my head and there are obviously circumstances with different ones but Chris Carter and Brett Favre, Steve Young. I mean those are off the top of my head but i'm sure there are more examples but also acknowledge its much more likely that he will not find success. Quote

I don’t think young was cut either. Carter was a fourth round pick. What I mean is guys who just bust out after being a first round pick and more in the modern nfl with the current cba not from 2 score ago. Edited Sunday at 06:45 PM by Matt_In_NH Quote

Hence the Bills not giving up on Elam. I was simply giving examples of teams that had given up on young players. I mean your scope is going to be very small if your looking for 1st round picks who were with their original team for two years who were only cut in the last say 10 years. 1 Quote
BillsFanForever19 Posted Sunday at 08:50 PM Posted Sunday at 08:50 PM (edited) If he wants to join our Practice Squad, sure. But we're not going to keep 7 CB's on the 53 and we're not going to cut any of Douglas, Benford, Taron, Ingram, or Codrington. And even in the case of Elam, I doubt they'd want to cut one First Round bust CB that has had years in the system and knows the playbook for another First Round bust CB who doesn't. He makes a play here or there, but takes bad angles and makes more mental errors than the other DB'S. There's a reason he can't get on the field and it's not because of Douglas and Benford alone. Benford also is not the best CB in the NFL. You put him on another team, in another system, and he's just average. We have seen it multiple times, that McDermott knows how to coach up DB'S. Benford is nothing more than a product of our defense. You're taking one extreme and exchanging it for another. Is Benford "the best CB in the NFL"? No. But to say he's "nothing more than a product of our defense" is swinging the argument pendulum in the other direction completely. He's without question better than other guys who have started for us like Levi Wallace or Dane Jackson. He's better than any other CB this regime has Drafted with the exception of Tre White in his prime, pre ACL and Achilles. Take into account his age and his bill of health and he's one of the most valuable assets on the team at one of the leagues most valuable positions. If he were simply a "product of our defense" - then any CB could perform at the level he does on this team. And that's simply not the case. Guys like Jackson became expendable bc of his presence on the team. Guys like Elam would have been the star they were expected to be. Other CB's would perform at his level. They don't because he is far more talented than just being a good fit. Quote

They have historically played a fair bit of man, but less so this year. Chris Shula is their DC these days. Quote

Claimed today. Good move by the Rams because I think they are very close to a rebuild so they can take that chance on a 53 plus their DBs have struggled. I wouldn’t expect him to play this week though. That’s a lot of information to learn and do in 4 days including moving stuff across the country Quote
