No it's definitely DT.   They got guys playing meaningful snaps there that they picked up off the street weeks ago.   Daquan Jones has been awful this year and Ed Oliver has had an unproductive season.

I just want to know what happened to Daquan.

He was playing near-elite for the past 2 years and then he just fell off a cliff.

Yeah, people should temper expectations IMO for the next few weeks. Milano is basically in Pre Season game mode. I would expect to see him get something like 8-12 snaps this week. Slightly more next week and so on. Barring injury to Williams, of course.

So true...he's probably only getting 10 snaps tomorrow and will be slowly ramped up each week. His health starting the playoffs is 100x more important than him going hard tomorrow. Load manage.....

I'm really excited about Dewayne Carter being back. Plus getting some rest with the time off from the wrist. He was staring to really play big time before his injury.

Well, he ain’t back yet…

I think he's finally getting healthy. I saw him absolutely ragdoll Humphrey.

Sounds great. Zero reason to rush him back to a full time role. Especially considering we are otherwise fully heathy on D. I want this dude healthy for the playoffs.

So excited to watch him and Bernard play together. We've been robbed of that for two years.

Welcome back Matt.

Right, this is my point. As fans we want both, but it really isn’t easy to get a guy who can possess the size to be stout in the run game against a double team and wreak havoc against the pass.

Fans have grown weary to watching teams be able to push around the DL on the ground, and its lead to many wanting that traditional space eater nose tackle.

That is just not what McBeane will want. They know it’s not apple picking grabbing a guy who can do both, so I think they opt to do with guys who can penetrate and rush the passer, since their defense is primarily built to stop the pass.

Well yeah , the league has shifted more towards the pass...

I've been playing coaching and scouting my entire life and it took me into the late 2010s to switch how I scout players  .. like when I go to an actual football camp and scout up and coming players

I was always a traditionalist and modern football has made me realize linebackers like Matt Milano are the future... Not 260 lb lugs who can't play in coverage

Same thing with the 340 lb space eater... If you can get a 310 pound guy who gives you more pass rushing and the occasional ability to disrupt the run ... It's better than the guy who destroys the run for one or two downs but gives you zero pass rushing flexibility

The days of 255 lb middle linebackers who could stuff the A gap are gone... It's fast high IQ players who give you enough against the run... But can run with tight ends and slot receivers

Same with quarterback... I gave my highest evaluations to traditional pocket passes forever... By 2019... I had to rework everything I thought I knew about quarterbacks

Because there will never be a traditional Peyton Manning or Tom Brady again... It's all about can you create outside of a scheme while playing within it most of the time... A quarterback who has no ability to create now is a walking back up

Hardly

Everyone likes the guy and I’m a fan but 5 tackles per game as a career average isn’t borderline all-pro for a mlb. He’s a solid good player. Borderline pro-bowler is more appropriate at this point.

After dealing with postseason injuries that have negatively affected both of them, I'm suspicious that they have a protect yourself pact for the regular season so they can go into January at full health.

It's called age injury and wear and tear

The average NFL careers 3 years... 10-year veterans are studs

Your entire career is dependent on scheme fit, coaching and playing time

There are plenty of guys with high-level athleticism who flame out.. and average for NFL level athleticism who become top level players

The actual talent Gap in the NFL is very small.. it's those nuances that make the difference

And how much a player wants it.. when you get paid millions of dollars it changes some people's want... Who wants a legacy and who wanted to get paid

While I'm pretty sure he'll be on a pitch count for a while , the idea of Bernard and Milano together is exciting

I couldn’t agree more.  It is a nice relief pitcher coming in. He may start and come out, but also don’t want to screw Williams if he is the real starter and whether that matters on his contract.

All that aside, if Milano gets a turnover or a sack I really think I am going to lose my **** and my neighbors might end up calling the police because of how loud I’d be.

I'd really like to know what's behind elevating Mike White this week.  No injuries reported at QB, but maybe someone is ill. If so, I hope it's not 17. (sorry Mitch!)

At a guess, they didn't feel they needed to back fill another position, so they decided to do Mike a "friendly" and get him a game check.

Vet minimum with 3 accrued seasons (not sure, but think that's where White is) is $61,000 per game.

Practice squad is between $16.8 and $21.3.

So it's basically giving the guy a $40,000 bonus.

It has looked like age, to me. I hope I'm wrong. We need him to play well.

If you're looking at ROI, it's inarguable.  The Bills under McDermott and Beane have invested the most cap dollars for the most meagre return at DL.

If you're looking at fundamental talent level, we do have talent on the DL in Ed, Daquan, and Carter was looking good before the injury.

I grant that Jones and Oliver have not played nearly as well as they did last season.  It's possible that age has caught up with the 33 yr old Jones, or, that he never healed adequately from the torn pec that caused him to miss 10 games last season. He was originally reported "out for the season", and 10 weeks is a short time; high-grade tearreported to take 3-4 months.  Ed Oliver missed two games with a hammy, and I thought he was playing pretty well before that.

Jordan Phillips is kind of a special case for "guy we picked up off the street weeks ago", though, and to a lesser extent so is Q since they both spent time in the system.

My argument for safety would be that Rapp is a known danger to his teammates and a mediocre starter in the past.  Hamlin is not a danger to his teammates but is a mediocre starter.  At least the guys on the team at DT have talent and played at a high level last season.

Either age, or not recovered from the pec.  It's not unheard of for guys to rush back to the detriment of their long-term level of play

The entire team seems to have that feel. They're not rushing anyone back.

I was specifically referring to Oliver and DaQuan Jones, but yeah now that you mention it, they do somehow feel less desperate and more patiently in control than they have in some previous seasons.
