TheCockSportif Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Bing Crosby was allegedly a cantankerous SOB, but my god, his voice and all of his Christmas songs... Also, Frank Sinatra and his stuff is iconic to me. Plus I laugh because he recorded one of the songs twice (I forget which one off the top of my head now -- but soon my wife will saturate me with Christmas music until Dec 24), but the second version of said song was dour AF. I admit that I hear the second version of the song, multiple times, annually, and I kinda chuckle to myself about how Sinatra was cynical, sad, and likely sippin' on lots of booze during it's remake. 1 Quote

But for "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas", your version is fine, but I gotta give flowers to the original Gayla Peevey version. She was 10 years old when she recorded this fine tune in 1953. Then her non-stage-parents said "we want a kid who can be a kid" and "Nope'd" out of show biz for her. Especial props to the gleeful way she announces "Mom says a hippo would eat me up but then...teacher says a hippo is a vegetarian" 1 Quote
SoTier Posted December 5 Posted December 5 (edited) I have so many Christmas favorites, but Montgomery Gentry's cover of Robert Earl Keen's "Merry Christmas to the Family" reminds me of so many of the Christmases or other holidays as a kid, especially with my mother's family. My mom was a city girl who married a farmer, but it was her relatives who were much more redneck than any of my Dad's relatives. Merry Christmas to the Family Edited December 5 by SoTier Quote

Normally I'd be right there with you, but this cover is done by one of my favorite bands; a favorite in part because of their lead vocalist, Rachel Price. Here's a sampler pack, if you're interested: 1 Quote

Poleshifter Posted Tuesday at 08:40 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:40 PM This one harkens back to the beatnik era, so if you remember Maynard G Krebs, you might enjoy Yulesville, Daddy-O. Quote
