I was a big Boxing and NBA fan in the 90s.  At this stage I just don't have any interest in either one anymore.  I wish Boxing would make a comeback because getting together for the Tyson fight thing was pretty cool even though that "fight" was an absolute joke.  The undercard bouts brought back some good memories though when I used to be really into it.

One of my childhood best friends was the biggest Hockey/Sabres fan I ever knew.  Much bigger fan than I ever was.  We reconnected a few years back and went out for some drinks.  I learned he completely lost interest in the NHL and even the Sabres.  Made me sad for some reason

Boxing - when it became obvious it was fixed or scripted. Tuned in on Saturday and it was worse than what I turned my back on years ago. Not only a total joke, but boring af. At least back in the day it was entertaining.

NASCAR. Died with Winston cup and Dale.

I don't think it was because of Earnhart getting killed.  They just lost what made them popular. For instance when they used to come to Watkins Glen international (WGI) places around here had events and drivers would show up with a car and sign autographs. WGI used to also have not for profits work a lot of concessions selling loot and they got a cut of what they sold. Also races were at noon or 1 pm.

... Now, most of the short tracks are gone, there all no longer any more local events because they priced themselves out, NASCAR kicked out the NFP's and took over the loot sales  and early races are now 3 pm or night. Throw in ridiculous rule changes like stages and a lot of their base said screw it.

... If I watch racing now its usually IRL, open wheel racing on road courses is a great TV watch.

Guessing you were a Geoff Bodine fan.

Agree about Earnhardt to a point, but he made them mainstream more than anything. Except for his kid, no one came along after that that had their star appeal. NASCAR overplayed their hand in many ways imo.

Basketball

I still enjoy college basketball (in fact I’m looking forward to Xavier playing Michigan tonight), but I won’t even watch the NBA Finals any more. If they start talking NBA, I change the channel. We took our young AAU playing boys to an NBA game in Charlotte one time and about two minutes in my scrappy little point guard turned to me and said “they’re not even trying!” Exactly. Like the NFL, if you don’t care about the integrity of the game, why should I care?

I would have to say boxing.

I used to train at the same gym as Lennox Lewis and his trainer, Arnie Boehm (the KW Police Association Boxing Club) so not only did i box, but i followed boxing religiously, however, when Lennox finally retired, i lost interest as the only other boxers at the time were basically the Klitschko brothers from Ukraine and the boxing commission just basically handed them the belts.......the sport just got real boring after that.

Baseball.

They called and asked if my son wanted to play All Stars when baseball season ended. They wanted him at 2nd base and hitting lead off. I asked him and he responded “Do I have to? Half the guys are standing around, and the other half are sitting.”  From the mouths of babes.

He went on to play sports where there is more action.

To a point this year NCAA football ... The end of conferences doesn't sit well with me. The Big 10 has about 20 teams, these are Universities, call yourself the Big 22 or whatever. Teams from Texas in the South East Conference, teams from California in the Atlantic Coast conference for **** sake. I'm old and not rolling with changes and haven't watched nearly the amount of games I used to.

NASCAR - Is there any reason to watch anything other than the final 20 laps ? ... Then of course they feel a need to end every race with a green/white checker flag. There's a hot dog wrapper on the track, throw a caution for debris with 2 to go.

The only Basketball I watch anymore is March Madness.

I only watch Baseball if the Blue Jays are good.

Tennis used to be so much fun to watch.  After the matches we would play right out in the street and have arguments about who would be McEnroe, Connors, Lendl, etc.  Indoor soccer was huge too - the Stallions were every bit as popular as the Sabres at our school

NBA basketball.  I just can’t get interested at all until the playoffs.  I used to be a huge 76ers fan when I was younger and would watch most of their games, but I probably couldn’t name 6 players in the current team.

NBA for sure. Big Braves fan as a kid. Still followed the league even after they moved. Ended up eventually becoming a fan of Utah Jazz because of Karl Malone and John Stockton. Couldn't name 5 NBA players now

Between the conference craziness and 12 team playoff system, I thought I'm through, it's gotten ridiculous.

But as it gets closer to the playoff start, I'm finding it intriguing and realizing, though slim it may be, upsets in Bowl games will have meaning and I'll be tuning into games I would have paid no attention to in the past.

Tennis was great back in the day. Sampras was my guy for a while during that period. When he needed a point, he’d blast a serve off the line with pinpoint accuracy. Since Federer and Rafa have dropped off the scene there is nobody I really feel compelled to follow.

On the women’s side I’ll watch Jess Pegula any time, but especially if it’s doubles with Coco Gauff.
