He is the best slot receiver in football.  Maybe the pro-bowl only looks at yards and TDs, but a guy who is the best at his position should be in the pro-bowl and on the all-pro teams.  Taron Johnson made the All-pro 2nd team last year and is the best slot corner in the NFL.  Maybe it's time slot receivers get the same respect.

Amon-Ra St. Brown.

He is a great receiver, but not a pure slot player.  However his YAC is only 246 yards.  Shakir's YAC is 2nd to Chase with 460. YAC per reception: Shakir 8.2 vs St Brown 3.5.

St. Brown ave reception is 10.5 vs Shakir at 10.7.  He also has only 1 more 20+ yard play (8 vs 7) this season.  Shakir also leads in catch% 85% vs 83.5%.

We can throw in Reed as well.  Reed YAC 307, YAC/R 7.5, reception % 79%.  Reed's average yards per catch is excellent at 16.3 yards, but he runs deeper patterns than Shakir and also plays more outside as does St Brown.

Just curious where you can find numbers that list where WR’s lineup(slot vs outside)?

Not exactly sure, I've seen many articles mention them, but I've had a hard time finding them.  I tend to look at the AIR stats.  The larger the AIR stat, the more likely the players plays outside vs the slot.

Excellent list!  And I hear that @WotAGuy is hung like a horse.

Like that Beavis & Butthead episode where they went to sporting goods store to buy a jock strap and the owner only had an eye patch that fit their package???

Lol! Couldn't find the GIF, YouTube it if you haven't seen it!

Does anyone watch this so-called game?

This. There have been so many scrubs named to pro bowl rosters over the years as replacements. It’s hardly an honor. In 40 years of fandom I’ve never watched one and never will. It’s just a marketing scheme.

Being named ALL PRO carries more weight.

Speaking of which, Taron was the only Bill named ALL PRO last year.

I’d imagine that number grows this year…

Here's my list of Bills that deserve the nod.

Offense:

Josh Allen

James Cook

Deion Dawkins

Spencer Brown

Khalil Shakir

Defense:

Greg Rousseau

Christian Bedford

Terrell Bernard

Taron Johnson (forgot!)

Not on my list:  Ed Oliver, Matt Milano, Amari Cooper

I think Oliver isn't having a very good year. Milano is great, but he's missed too much time to qualify. Transferring to a new team has not helped Amari, but he's still good. I just think there are better WRs based on this year's numbers. I do give him a lot of credit for playing hurt though.

So who are your probowl caliber studs?

No Love for for Taylor Rapp?  Guys been all over the field and making big play after big play.  Deserves some attention over Taron in MHO

The problem is that he has a Rapp sheet 100 yards long.

I used to watch it religiously in the 90's and early 2000's, but since they turned it into a game of flag football, i'm out.

What first killed it for me was moving it from after to before the Super Bowl. It used to be a nice digestif after a long season - you get all the Hawaii shots, the announcers are wearing the aloha shirts, etc.

But even I couldn’t pretend to care the week before the Super Bowl, in the same city. No SB participants, none of the players want to be there (as opposed to Hawaii, which made having to play in the game more palatable)… it’s just depressing. Then the players stopped trying whatsoever and that was that.

That's about it. The other players listed are good, but there's others having better years. I think Spencer Brown is worthy, but he's probably not recognizable enough to get the nod over some more well known players.

Don't be surprised if the Bills have zero Pro Bowlers this year.

The NFL is stupid and lets the fans pick.  Which means it's partially a popularity contest, partially based on fantasy football/stats, partially based on which markets are bigger (that's why Dallas has a dozen guys make it every season) and partially based on whoever announcers decide to hype up during the year.

Lots of voters know less than nothing and will just pick everyone from their hometown team.  That puts us at a huge disadvantage right from the get-go, because Buffalo is one of the smaller markets.  We also have a huge market (New York/Jets) that will purposely NOT vote for anyone on our team.

Patrick Mahomes could get put on IR on Week 1 and still make the Pro Bowl, because he's the face of the NFL.  Lamar Jackson is also extremely popular around the country and has great stats this year.  He won't miss it.  They only pick three guys, so I would give Josh Allen a maybe 50/50 shot to get voted in.  Either he gets snubbed, or Joe Burrow does.  Just like every other season.

In fantasy football, we used to have Stefon Diggs putting up big numbers.  But since we spread the ball around now, none of our RBs or WRs have the fantasy stats to catch anyone's attention, so forget anyone like Khalil Shakir or James Cook getting in.

All the rest of the positions (O-Line, D-Line, Linebackers, Secondary) will get in based on how much CBS, Fox, NBC and ESPN decide to actually talk about those players.  When was the last time you heard the announcers rave about how fantastic Christian Benford was at cornerback?  Or Terrell Bernard at linebacker?  How much chance does Greg Rousseau have in a conference with TJ Watt, Myles Garrett, Max Crosby, etc.?  About as much chance as Ed Oliver had last year.  How many years did we watch Matt Milano get snubbed (and now he's hurt for the second straight year)?  Taron Johnson is finally getting some talk, but he won't make it over big-name guys like Sauce Gardner and Jalen Ramsey.  I give Dion Dawkins a tiny chance, and that's about it.

I would like to think Milano is not eligible since he has not played a snap.  This is pro bowl 2024 after all.  I also think it is premature to do this with 6 games left but that is an overall minor nit compared with what a joke the whole thing is.
