EasternOHBillsFan Posted November 25 Posted November 25 (edited) What an absolute joke. This is why Woody Johnson's Jests are truly one of the laughingstocks of the league. I don't think that we will have to worry about the Jets threatening us or any of the other two teams in our division for a long, long time. I am simply flabbergasted and yet very thankful Woody is a terrible owner. "The franchise announced Monday that The 33rd Team, a football media, analytics and consulting group founded by former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, will assist team owner Woody Johnson in the searches. Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman, former GM of the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings, will be The 33rd Team’s primary representatives in helping find replacements for former coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas." https://apnews.com/article/jets-tannenbaum-spielman-f0196533104605d66878c9b030dbd15a Edited November 25 by EasternOHBillsFan typo 3 Quote
st pete gogolak Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Tannenbaum’s a clown (he would match well with Rex). Last year on Get Up he predicted Prescott would throw for 400 yards and the Cowboys would rout the Bills. Oops 😬! 3 Quote
WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I appreciate Woody Johnson's devotion to allowing the Bills to beat his team twice a year. 14 Quote

hondo in seattle Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I'm not sure why this is a "absolute joke." Some owners handle the search themselves. I'll guess Spielman and Tannebaum together know more about football coaches and GMs just about any owner. Some critics may point out that their credentials are weak considering they both ended their GM careers in failure. But, then again, look at us fans. We always know with certainty who should be the GM and coach of our favorite team and we have no experience or insider knowledge whatsoever. 3 1 4 Quote

That's like saying "Well, Rex Ryan knows more about football than just about any other coach out there, let's hire him!!!" Come on, man... the records of these two don't exude success, and to claim that it isn't an absolute joke because of their total years of experience is wrong headed. Not all experience is GOOD EXPERIENCE. 1 Quote
SoTier Posted November 25 Posted November 25 (edited) IMO, Johnson is trying to recreate the best years of his reign as Jests owner. With Tannenbaum as GM, the Jests went to back-to-back AFCCGs with Rex Ryan as HC and Mark Sanchez as QB. It was the Jests' version of the "Glory Years". Tannenbaum built the the best OL in the AFC at the time with D'Brickashaw Ferguson at LT, Alan Faneca at LG, Nick Mangold at C, Brandon Moore at RG and Damien Woody at RT. Ferguson and Mangold were All Pros in 2009 and Faneca a Pro Bowler as well. They had an excellent defense led by Pro Bowl DE Shaun Ellis and All Pro DB Darrelle Revis. Tannenbaum also traded up in the draft to take Sanchez. Edited November 25 by SoTier 1 Quote

Augie Posted November 25 Posted November 25 (edited) I would be willing to volunteer my services on this decision because I know absolutely nothing, but I’m afraid that would actually help. . Edited November 25 by Augie 2 Quote

Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Dear Mr. Johnson, We recommend for GM a Mr. Joseph Schoen, and for Head Coach a Mr. Brian Daboll. Your certified check for our consultants fee will be gladly received. Respectfully, Tannenbaum, Spielman, and Associates. Division of Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe. 1 2 Quote

Not all experience is GOOD EXPERIENCE. You and I can judge a good QB without ever having played QB at the NFL. But Dan Orlovsky, who did play in the NFL, can analyze QBs better than either of us despite having never been a great QB himself. Tannebaum and Spielman are Dan Orlovsky. Tannebaum spent 22 years as a personnel guy in the league, got promoted a few times, and two teams thought he was capable and smart enough to be a GM or VP. (If we're counting, zero teams have thought you or I were capable or smart enough to be GM). After his retiring from football as a player, Rick Spielman went to work as a scout, earned promotions through his good work, and eventually became a VP and GM. He has roughly 30 years of personnel experience. They might not know how to build a winning organization as well as, for example, Bill Polian. But together they undoubtedly have lots of contacts throughout the league who will give them insider intel on all the candidates. They're fully capable of their assigned role: "help identify and vet candidates in addition to coordinate interviews." 3 3 Quote
Billznut Posted November 25 Posted November 25 My guess is Tannenbaum’s recommendation to Johnson will be to hire him as GM. I mean Woody already did it once in the past. He may just do it again. Quote
3rdand12 Posted November 25 Posted November 25 As soon as I saw the Rex Ryan quotes on PFT earlier this week , from not sure when, thought to myself omg this could actually happen 😅 Quote
