Because of the 61 yard friggin moon shot, Bass is trust more with distance. In****sanity

Well, no because of Butker's injury I don't trust him out that far right now.  I don't trust Bass from any distance and honestly I probably never will.  Every single kick with him is butt clenching.

Anything less than 45 Butker. If it's more than 45 and I'm stuck with Butker I'm going for it.

You have to start the game with one of them. Let’s make it this season’s Super Bowl. We know the surface. Opponent never matters, unless the kicker’s wife ran off with the other kicker.

Butker 100 times out of 100.

Let's be clear, I have nightmares about Bass lining up a game winning FG in the SB.

I wouldn’t start another NFL game with him. I honestly think this is insane what they’ve decided. Banking on not needing Bass to win the SB is just negligence to me. Because, I swear…

But Jesus if it works, huh. What do we know..? Imagine Bass nailing a SB winner. We’d toast McBassy forever and forever. Nuts of granite

I believe this conversation is happening at this time because of Bass, about Bass.

this thread should be about the kicker. We all got good QBs. Sure, ours is a little better (HA!) but these playoffs are not going to be for the light heartened. And there are some excellent kickers that give teams an advantage. Not us. We are a mess at kicker. And it’s not okay. Okay.

I would need more Xanax than has ever been made in order to watch that kick.

Did you watch the last one?

IF THE BILLS HAD CHRIS BOSWELL. SUPPPPPER BOWL. McBos? Get ‘er done?

Discussing the current playoff situation for a moment.  If it ends up the way it currently is it has the potential to line up nicely for us.  Denver, then Pittsburgh if they beat LA, and on the other side of the bracket you'd have Baltimore and Houston knocking one or the other out, then the winner playing KC and again, knocking one of them out. Potentially we could get to the AFC Championship game and only have to play one of Houston, Baltimore or KC with 2 of those 3 options being at home.  That's a pretty nice draw if I'm honest and a potential downside to being the 1 seed.  Yes you get a bye, but barring upsets it also probably lands you Baltimore in the Divisional and then probably KC in the Championship.

Which last one? Bass in the playoffs last year? Yes.  For me it was lower stakes because in my head they'd already lost by kicking that at all.  Needed a TD on that drive and didn't get it.  Bass making that kick would have prolonged the inevitable.

I was 12 years old and it was horrible.

I agree with you BTW, you pay your kicker all year just in case they have to make that kick.  If they aren't pretty close to a mortal lock from any reasonable distance in that situation you need a different kicker and you keep looking until you find a Tucker or a Butker or a Vinatieri.  Bass isn't that guy.  Could he make it?  Sure, he could.  Do I trust him to step up and nail one? Hell no.

13. My dad said a second before the snap, “He’s gonna miss it.” I got distracted because where did that come from? and the ball was veering of course. My god, that didn’t just happen. Nooo, the Giants are dropping to their knees, thanking the Lord. ……It’s over. crap

And McDummy is showing us Bass. Unreal. Of all fanbases. He’s blind on this one. Big time

And remember, only took a day or two for the city to rally, back Norwood. We had the feeling that these Super Bowls were coming and we’d win next year.

So the moral is.. Bills fans can spot a shakey kicker, and we don’t like it (nothing personal); and we also appreciate the rare opportunity to play in a Super Bowl, and how that may be your only shot in a lifetime to see your team with the trophy.

I agree with everything you said but I don't know if you can find a better replacement at this point.  The only positive about Bass is he's familiar with how the wind blows in the stadium.

As a team org, If you knew a better option, you do it. I would hope.. So, you’re right.

But when did we know.. it’s the team’s business to know and do something about it.

Put it this way, He’s worse off than he was at the end of last season’s debacle. That’s not good, and we should’ve found a way to sure up a point scoring position.

I don’t know what’s out there right now either. That’s part of the problem here.

Bass can’t make two 50 yarders and miss a 28 yarder every game and think that we’re cool with that. Cant be that way. Thats a fired kicker. Every time.

He's now 38 for 39 in his career from 20 to 30 yards so I wouldn't sweat it out that much with short kicks.  I would've moved off Bass after the KC finale game last year and brought in a more reliable kicker when they were available (even though it would mean eating the dead cap on his contract).  They're best bad option though now is sticking with Bass even though he even looks like Norwood.

Bass is much better than Vinatieri:

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/fg_perc_career.htm

Bass is 27th all time in accuracy at 84.211%, vs. Vinatieri, who 35th with 83.776%

The 86% playoffs chance I've been seeing for Denver seems very high to me. Ran the remainder of games through Playoff Machine at ESPN and Indy should win final 3 games and Denver could easily lose to Cincy and KC. Seems like a much higher failure rate for Denver is likely.

Edit: NYT has it at 79% and that still seems very high. I think Payton knows he's in trouble after losing that game last night.

Best potential scenario is getting the bye... followed by Pittsburgh/Houston in the Divisional Round.

Worst potential scenario is getting the #2 seed and being forced to play the extra Wild Card game... followed by Baltimore in the Divisional Round, and then Kansas City in Arrowhead for the AFC Championship.  Yes, there is a very possible scenario that we end up with the worst of both worlds.

Obviously we should be rooting for the Chiefs to lose, giving us a crack at the #1 slot.  But if that doesn't happen, my hope is the Steelers win the AFC North.  That would give us a much better shot at avoiding the Ravens in the playoffs.

The Colts can't ever seem to beat the Jags with their season on the line.

Their schedule seems easy.  But I definitely wouldn't pencil them in at 3-0 down the stretch.

I would pause the game, turn off the TV as he's lining up to kick, wait about 5 minutes, then check the box score on my phone.

If he made it, I'd turn back on & watch. If not, I'd already be on here ranting & spamming posts about how much Bass sucks...

But there's almost no way I could watch Bass kick a potential SB-winning FG live. My heart would give out as the ball is snapped 😆
