The winds will be coming over the narrower part of Lake Erie, so they aren't going to pick up huge amounts of moisture before coming over land. The huge snow amounts in the Southtowns (Hamburg, OP) from lake effect snow events occur when the winds come from a southwesterly direction that takes it over almost the entire length of Lake Erie sucking up moisture as it goes. All of WNY will likely get some decent snow. Some of us will get quite a lot. Places in the Boston Hills or along the Chautauqua Ridge will probably get the most but it's highly unlikely that even they will get 6 or 7 feet. It takes a specific set of circumstances to produce such massive snow totals, but not all of them are present for this upcoming weather event. You two weather nerds talking in terms of FEET of snow for the game on Sunday... I just checked the local forecast for Orchard Park and I'm seeing only a foot from Friday through Sunday with 1 to 3 inches forecasted for each day! For Christ's sake get a grip! 1 1 2 1 Quote

From the reports I've seen thus far, the major snowfall will be confined to the Canadian side but it will still be 30 degrees and possibly some wind chill. I remember a NE game when we clearly out gunned them that we lost... but there have been several that we really used it to our advantage... several Miami games come to mind... maybe a Steelers playoff and Ravens playoff game... but yes the weather is the x factor for sure. That's my point, too. I don't know where the idea came from that any place was going to get 6 feet of snow by Monday. As of this morning, the area from Erie, PA to Dunkirk and east are possibly going to get 18-24". Jamestown is forecast to get up to a foot by Monday but we're at an elevation of around 1200-1400 feet. Some people are panicking unnecessarily. 1 Quote

A watch issued this early is because they are expecting it to be really bad and are giving people lots of notice to prepare for it. Watches are issued prior to 24 hours of the storms expected arrival at which time it will become a Winter Storm Warning or Lake Snow Warning. Early models showing 4-6+ feet I don’t see any local forecast predicting 4’-6’ of snow…and no one sensationalizes forecasts like the local crews. 😂😂😂 3 Quote
zow2 Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Looks like a set up for classic lake effect to get the ski areas off and running. Orchard Park may get a few inches but not “feet” of snow. The Airport and northern suburbs don’t appear to be in the bullseye for anything major so people flying to town for the game should be Ok. 3 Quote

Still love it the same way I have since I was a kid who sat and watched The Weather Channel for hours at a time, just hated all the math and physics that went into the classes. I hear ya. I wanted to be a meteorologist but science was always hard for me. So much math and science involved. Quote
