Prescott and Hurts ahead of Josh and Burrow? What's he judging on, because it doesn't seem to be QB ability, albeit Hurts is decent.

And, as said, Stroud's ego is through the roof.

Yikes,  I might put our QB in the top five.  :D

Stroud rode a last place schedule, a weak division, and a lack of film to a 10-7 finish last year. The talk about them being legitimate super bowl contenders was always blown out of proportion. They are definitely a solid team with some strong pieces but there was a lot of premature anointing of the Texans this summer.

Houston got too high on themselves. They had a weirdly self-congratulatory offseason, which included those bizarre CJ Stroud interviews. It's one thing to go from laughingstock to respectable team; the next step from respectable team to championship team is even larger. They thought they were 90% of the way there but they weren't even halfway.

I said it at the time - trading a 2nd for a one year rental of Stefon Diggs made no sense for their team. Like Brandon Beane says, your final game of the season tells you who you are. Why did Houston lose to Baltimore in the divisional round? Not because they lacked WR talent. It was because they couldn't block a cardboard cutout. Here we are today and OL remains the weakest unit on the team by far. A lack of pass protection has caused Stroud to regress, and now they look like a team that will be lucky to get out of the wildcard round. Bobby Slowik in his 2nd season has been figured out and unable to adjust. He's gone from next hot head coaching candidate to guy maybe on the hot seat.

It's a good reminder that there are no shortcuts to success in the NFL.

Meh, I basically don’t agree with any of this.

Stroud is cheap, looked like he had arrived as the next young star QB, they had a good defense and blossoming young talent in Collins and Tank, who was still rehabbing. A pick for another weapon who would bridge Tank’s comeback and provide something made sense for a team on the rise.

Joe Burrow went the Super Bowl his second season with a worse OL, and their team was 4-11-1 the year prior.

They had the clear worst case outcome with Diggs getting hurt and missing the rest of the year. That’s the risk of a short term rental.

I don’t think it was unreasonable to think their trajectory was going to go up in a weak division. You are right there are no shortcuts to success in the NFL, but there are no guarantees with long term plans either. The Bills famously had their “win now and win in the future” philosophy and they threw it away for Von Miller because they hadn’t won now and were afraid they wouldn’t win the future. And we still haven’t.

Do you think the 2021 Bengals wished they made some shorter term moves to get over the hump? They have gone from AFC Champ, to AFC finalist, to missing the playoffs two years straight. And Burrow is already almost 28. nothing is ever guaranteed.

They put all the eggs in one basket when it comes to the OL.  They paid a ransom to get Larmey Tunsil.   They are paying for that folly.

I think one year rentals are trades you make in the middle of the season when you've properly evaluated your team and know what piece could potentially put you over the top. Not something you do before the season even begins and you have no clue where you stand. Worse, they re-worked his contract in a way that almost guaranteed it to be exactly a one year rental. And then they did nothing to address the OL. They tried building the flash before they had the fundamentals in place. That never works out. See: the New York Jets.

Wow, what a f-ing moron...and not even a casual mention of the best QB in the league.  He was right about one thing, though: "I'm trippin'."

There’s a specific reason they traded for Diggs in April. It wasn’t because they needed him in January, it was because they needed him in September/October while Tank was still coming back from injury.

If Tank doesn’t get hurt, I’m not sure they trade for Diggs at all. Even if they do, I find it hard to kill the Texans for surrounding their young, cheap QB with as many weapons as possible to try to make a run when they are ahead of schedule. Tomorrow is never promised. And draft picks are overrated. The Rams proved that.

I get why everyone is piling on the Giants for Saquan Barkley but we need to use common sense here. Barkley signed with the perfect team. If he stayed in NY he would have a good year, 1200-1300 yards and 10 TDs, but he’s not an MVP candidate.

The Giants also aren’t much different this season if they had Barkley. The outrage is laughable.

We see this a lot with teams that complete 1-year turnarounds.

Making an immediate push to the Playoffs through the addition of a Quarterback, or a Coach with a new scheme, or a defense that has that one great year.

But its hard to turnover the entire roster in 1-year, and then you make the Playoffs and you're picking in the 20's.

Miami is beating bad teams. They stomped the Raiders and Patriots. The JV of the NFL. Like they always do. On the road against a good team like the Pack? I expect a big GB win.

Another season with Miami not beating a single team that has a winning record.

Feels like they are at least going to beat Houston this year.  In a dome vs a team that has seemingly been showing some real issues.

the flip side is Houston may sack Tua into retirement if they can't protect him.  He gets the ball out so fast though he should minimize some of that.

Miami to me looks like the better team right now.

So I guess what I'm saying is the Texans making the divisional round with Stroud last year deservedly should have been viewed differently than the Giants making the divisional round with Daniel Jones.

The Ravens have done just fine retooling over the years picking in the back half of the draft. It's not as easy to get slam-dunk superstars, but that's where good draft process matters the most. When you pick top 5, picking is easy.

Watching the Chief's game yesterday was like watching a game during the mid part of the Bills drought era.  Where we would have played a heavily favoured team and put in a solid effort but faltered at some crucial stage to lose agonizingly.

We never would have been outnumbered by the opposing team's fans, though.

McDaniel's probably cranking that AC down to 65 in the practice facility again.

The Giants would still be AWFUL, like they were awful last year.

No matter how much folks are told RB's don't move the needle, they still believe it. It's just a coincidence that Swift had the best year of his career in Philly last year and has gone back to pedestrian in Chicago.
