Beck Water Posted November 27 Posted November 27 5 hours ago, JGMcD2 said: The paycheck doesn’t matter… that’s the whole point here. The Giants owe him all the money that was guaranteed to him. This is just a simplified example, say the Giants owe Jones $10M this year and Buffalo pays Jones $1M to sign to the PS, well now the Giants owe Jones $9M and Buffalo owes him $1M. He doesn’t get another $1M tacked on to the $10M the Giants owe him. He clearly wants to go somewhere that’s the best fit for him, you acknowledged that by saying he turned a chance to start for the Raiders down. If he determines signing with a contender on their PS is the best thing for him, the paycheck literally factors in 0%. It's not the paycheck, it's the lack of stability and the job expectations of practice squad members. Good teams like the Bills do focus on developing practice squad members and getting them ready for that "next man up" mentality, but a big part of their job is still to help the starters prepare by mimicing the next opponent (including safety, heh). I don't think a team is allowed to pay a PS member that much money. 1 Quote

Especially when he doesn't have to. The teams reportedly interested are in the double digits. Meandering teams are offering him the opportunity to start. He wants to go to a Contender. But there are contending teams like Baltimore and Minnesota who will give him a spot on the 53 and the Backup gig. Anyone who thinks he's going to pass up another contender's 53 man roster spot and unquestioned Backup gig to replace Mike White on our Practice Squad is drinking the Kool Aid a little too much. Doc Brown Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I'd pry go to Minnesota to back up Sam Darnold and then maybe McCarthy next year. The 49ers also make sense given Purdy's shoulder issue. Both great offensive minds as head coach. Quote

I don't think a team is allowed to pay a PS member that much money. As the previous person mentioned...the Giants owe him up to 10.5M for the rest of the year. Jones could sign for the PS minimum and still get 10.5M for the year. Quote

Lol I’m not saying that’s what is going to happen or that I think it’s what is going to happen. All I’m trying to do is illustrate the possible pathways for Daniel Jones. You thought the money was a factor, I was explaining that it wasn’t a factor at all. It’s solely fit and where Jones feels most comfortable. Quote

Darnold is playing alright and their winning and they have McCarthy waiting in the wings. My guess is he thinks Darnold will get paid next year and it wont be by the Vikings since they have McCarthy so maybe he thinks in 2025 he'll have a chance with good weapons to be a bridge or one year starter and recoup some of his value. 2 Quote
machine gun kelly Posted November 27 Posted November 27 You guys beat me to it as it just came past my iPhone. It’s a smart move for him. He can challenge Darnold, and would have carried a clipboard for the next 7 years in Buffalo. No one is supplanting Allen as he has twice as many consecutive starts as the next active QB in the NFL. JGMcD2 Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Although Jones will be positioned to back up Darnold, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Cameron Wolfe note this will first be a practice squad agreement. Drinking the Kool-Aid @BillsFanForever19 Quote

I agree. Darnold will move on next year to challenge for a starting spot elsewhere. DJ will replace Darnold as the bridge QB to McCarthy. Quote

Doesn’t seem to be the case. It made a lot of sense for all of the reasons that I laid out. It’s not permanent, but takes pressure off both parties. Edited November 27 by JGMcD2 Quote
eball Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Minnesota is a good spot for him with that coaching staff. He needs to learn a structured system in which to operate if he has a chance to re-boot his career. Quote
zow2 Posted November 27 Posted November 27 How crazy would it be if Minnesota makes the Super Bowl. Darnold gets injured late 4th Qtr of the NFC Championship game. Daniel has to start the Super Bowl, plays great, wins it……over the Bills. 1 Quote

Steptide Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Don't totally understand signing with the Vikings. I mean, I'd assume he wants to start at some point right? If Darnold keeps playing well, what then? Quote
