No.  He's better than Trubisky.  Trubisky was awful in his Steelers stint.  I think Jones is a bad starter but good back up.  Not saying he's worth grabbing late in season but he's definitely got more upside.

They basically have the exact same stats. Both are failed starters. I'm not sure it matters who is the backup if they both suck

Mara was sold a bag of beans. Copying Buffalo’s front office arrangement, with two inexperienced characters. Wow. I blame Mara for that, and the GM and HC for not making it work.

Mara needs a president to make those decisions. He’s too close to the fire. His opinions should filter through the president, to the GM and HC.

There's an article this week, I think in The Athletic, that essentially asks the question "aside from reputation, what's the actual difference between the Jets and the Giants since Tom Coughlin left?"

What, indeed.

As everyone else is piling on him, I will play devil's advocate. Jones has played decently at times with a mediocre supporting cast.

He also has something very few other QBs have - a playoff win to their credit. That alone will guarantee him a market.

He has more playoff wins than Justin Herbert and Derek Carr. His playoff win is equal to the postseason records of Trevor Lawrence, Lamar Jackson and Kirk Cousins.

His parting from the Giants does not speak well of Daboll's abilities. We will soon find out if Daboll's reputation has been built undeservedly off the great Josh Allen.

Not saying Jones is Nick Foles but he could be serviceable in a Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, Matt Hasselbeck way or any other Matt you want to throw in there.

I don't think the Jets have had an overpriced lunch room monitor, like the Giants had in Gettleman.

Ironically Gettleman got his start as a scout with the Bills from 1986-1997.

He got that playoff win under Daboll.

Are you saying Daboll is the reason for Jones woes? If so, does Daboll get any credit for making the playoffs and getting that win or is it more of Daniel Jones dojng?

If he wants an opportunity to start right away the Giants seem like a decent option as he’d be an instant upgrade.

If he wants to sit behind a veteran that’s likely to sprain his ankle and blame the media for it he should sign with the Jets.

I've been higher on Jones than most. That said, he has been bad the last two years, like horrible bad. I'm not sure he is serviceable in any way. This talk of him being signed quickly doesn't really make sense to me. He has had 70 starts and is still not reading the field well, taking bad sacks, turning the ball over. It reminds me of when the media (Schefter) was saying the bears were going to get a 1st for Fields and he ultimately went for a 6th. If Jones was any good, he'd still be a giant

Ironically, Gentleman and Rob Ryan look like they've been making extra visits in the lunch line. 😁

Nobody could run with Dean's 'Matt Helm'. 😁

Forget Jones.  We already have an equally bad and cheaper backup that actually knows the system.

Spotrac cites rumors we're a "top landing spot" for Daniel Jones. However, I can't seem to find anything from anyone else that they would be referencing.

Maybe he's saying that we're high on Daniel Jones' list of places he wants to go to?

But the practical exigencies of an NFL roster dictate there is normally room for 2 QB on the 53-man roster.  A third QB means the team is running thin at another position.  And the backup is always one hard hit or UNC buzz-down away from going into the game.

I'm sure Daniel Jones would love to be in the building and on the sidelines with a playoff contender, but if he expects to be on the roster of a playoff contender, I think he's gotta be ready to play

Practice Squad is always an option. Similar to what we did with Kenny Stills, Devonta Freeman, Shaq Lawson, John Brown and Cole Beasley from 2020 - 2022.

Jones knows he isn't going to start for a playoff contender, and he needs to be ready to play, but PS seems beneficial for everyone involved. Protects the club from doing too much shuffling with a delicate position and protects the player from having to play meaningful snaps without being up to speed. It's not money out of his pocket, whatever he makes just offsets the cost of what the Giants need to pay down on the remainder of his salary.

Daniel Jones gets some stability, and a contender gets some insurance from someone who might (now) be the best backup QB in the league. If it's a good match, Jones could opt to sign a 1-year deal with the hope of rebuilding his value... similar to our own Mitch Trubisky his first go around in Buffalo. It didn't work out for Mitch in the long run, but short term, he got a decent little deal from Pittsburgh.

He's not going to sign with a Practice Squad. He has many different options. Reportedly 10 teams or more are interested. There are meandering teams offering him the chance to start this year, like the Raiders - who he's reportedly turned down. There's playoff teams like the Ravens who are interested and have a less than stellar backup in Josh Johnson.

The difference between a Practice Squad paycheck and a 53 man roster paycheck is MASSIVE. He's not going to sign on here for PS pennies on the dollar when he can easily play for another Playoff team that will make him the immediate backup on the 53.

The paycheck doesn’t matter… that’s the whole point here.  The Giants owe him all the money that was guaranteed to him. This is just a simplified example, say the Giants owe Jones $10M this year and Buffalo pays Jones $1M to sign to the PS, well now the Giants owe Jones $9M and Buffalo owes him $1M. He doesn’t get another $1M tacked on to the $10M the Giants owe him.

He clearly wants to go somewhere that’s the best fit for him, you acknowledged that by saying he turned a chance to start for the Raiders down. If he determines signing with a contender on their PS is the best thing for him, the paycheck literally factors in 0%.

I think it's a bit of a humor post from them.

Maybe we are just high if we want Daniel Jones.

If that's all it was, they got The Sporting News: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/buffalo-bills/news/bills-considered-top-landing-spot-daniel-jones- /aa920ebdad748afddea4a242

I still would be shocked if Jones came here. Either way, sounds like we'll know tomorrow where he's going. It appears he's zeroed in on his choice:

I think a practice squad signing is below Jones "dignity level" at this point.  Just my opinion.
