wjag Posted November 22 Posted November 22 So there has to be a story behind the scenes here. Jones or his agent must have forced this. On the surface this makes little sense. Quote
JohnBonhamRocks Posted November 22 Posted November 22 (edited) Waivers or no? We have become a bit of the destination for QB1s who flamed out but wish to remake their image and land another job to compete. Doubt it happens. But I would be all for him as QB2. 1 minute ago, wjag said: So there has to be a story behind the scenes here. Jones or his agent must have forced this. On the surface this makes little sense. Jones gets: to not play scout team safety NYG get: to not pay Jones even more $ for getting injured needlessly playing scout team safety Fair trade Edited November 22 by JohnBonhamRocks Quote

On the surface this makes little sense. Yeah Jones walked into President Mara's office and asked for his release, a request which Mara granted. That's about it. Quote
finn Posted November 22 Posted November 22 We already have Daniel Jones for a backup, or his clone anyway. Quote
strive_for_five_guy Posted November 22 Posted November 22 So he’ll clear waivers and then some team with a bad QB situation will take a flier on him, right? Quote

If you think paying $7 million/ year to a guy who has had 36 catches for about 360 in 2 years with 3 total td is nothing short of an awful contract, I don’t know what to tell you. great dude. Awful contract. Quote

There were plenty of these types of videos the year before when we chose Josh Allen over Josh Rosen. It's kind of ironic that when Jones was drafted the Giants fans wanted the other Josh Allen who is now known as Josh Hines-Allen. It's too bad there are no videos (that I'm aware of) showing Giants fans calling for Josh in 2018 & going nuts when they picked Barkley. Edited November 22 by Albany,n.y. 1 1 Quote
JakeFrommStateFarm Posted November 22 Posted November 22 (edited) I'm reading Jones asked to be released. There is also a 70m dead cap hit. Looks like daboll and Schoen are getting fired Edited November 22 by JakeFrommStateFarm Quote

Jones is only at about $72 million in career earnings, according to over the cap. https://stathead.com/football/versus-finder.cgi?player_id2=JoneDa05&player_id1=BradSa00&request=1&utm_id=BradSa00&utm_campaign=2023_01_wdgt_player_comparison&utm_source=pfr&utm_medium=sr_xsite pretty close comparison but I think Bradford was actually talented. He just got hurt all the time. That’s why teams traded multiple 1sts for him. No one would trade for Jones. Point taken though and I am guilty of overstating how bad he was (part of it is the way rookie qbs contracts are now). 1 1 Quote

He never led his team to a winning record anywhere he was. His 2016 season was actually pretty good statistically, but that's about all. He had a career passer rating of 84.5. Not starter caliber. The rookie wage scale really helped teams from making franchise altering mistakes right out of the gate with guys. 1 Quote

At least one can argue that, recently, the Jets were trying to go all in. The Giants have been doing nothing of the sort since Daboll got there. Easily the worst team/organization in NJ... Mara/Tisch deserve all the scorn Woody is getting. They are clueless. Except they have 2 SBs in the 2000s. You get cut a lot of slack for that. But I agree otherwise. The Buffalo Bills are the model franchise in NYS (and NJ!). Quote
DapperCam Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I’d take him as backup next year, he’s better than Mitch. He could start for the Cowboys the rest of the season. It’s possible he could start for the Raiders too. I wonder if he signs somewhere right away. 1 Quote

Awful contract. Too many people get hung up on the numbers. He has not been asked to be the #1 receiving TE but he plays more snaps than Kincaid. He is, in effect, an additional offensive lineman who can also get down the field and catch. He's valuable to this team in a number of ways and his contract is not a burden. Like I said...bad take. 2 Quote
