First ever TNF game flexed in Week 16

I hate this for ticket-purchasing fans.  Particularly those traveling to the game that booked flights, hotels, etc.  I'd think that most people flying in for the weekend game did not take Thursday off from work (or possibly even Friday) and now have to take off Thursday, and depending on where they're coming from, maybe even Wednesday.  Child care may need to be found and paid for.  Some flights and hotels are non-refundable and non-changeable, or if changed, at great cost.

 

Even local fans attending the game may need to take half a day off on Thursday and may have to cancel meetings, doctor's appointments, miss their kids' games, etc.

 

The NFL should offer refunds of the face value of the ticket when they reschedule a game, except for emergency situations.  I don't know for certain, but doubt that they do.

 

Although as a TV viewer, I may appreciate the better matchup in prime time, I still think it craps on the folks who purchased tickets and it should not be done.

I don't know about stadium crew but people who are traveling for a game yeah I agree.  They do this to maximize their money, they should compensate fans who made travel plans similar to how airlines have to provide compensation under certain circumstances.  It is not like an act of God caused the situation and yes I am aware when you buy tickets they say things can change but this ends up resulting in a monetary loss for the people who are the lifeblood of the game.  I think it would be a drop in the bucket for them to do the right thing.

My initial reaction without reading any comments on the twitter post is that this is brutal for the fans who planned to attend and stinks for the Broncos/Chargers who never planned on having a short week Thursday nighter in week 16.

 

What are they gonna do next year,  flex 2 more attractive at the 11th hour to the Germany game?!

How about selecting 2 or 3 games when the schedule comes out for late season TNF games and list the date/time as TBD. 

 

That way there is an understanding well in advance that anyone buying tickets to those specific games in week 16 or whatever, might be a Thursday nighter.

I believe it was the sports broadcasting act of 1961 that gives the NFL an anti-trust exemption and has a specific provision that no games can be televised on Friday nights or Saturdays from the second Friday in September until the second Saturday in December. So they'd lose their anti-trust exemption by playing on Saturdays.

I'm wondering if there's a way to remedy this. If the issue were purely monetary it's mostly already handled (except for the change in ticket price between 1 pm and prime time). Airlines will let you change for free for the most part nowadays, hotels don't charge until 24 hrs out. I understand this is not always the case- some airlines charge change fees, fare difference still counts, and some people take the nonrefundable rates for hotels to save money- but my thinking is that this isn't as much a monetary concern for fans as it is a disruptor for them- i.e. baby/dog sitters, PTO, etc. 

 

So, if, say, the NFL agreed to make the process seamless and get fans to the new game time at 0 cost, would that be acceptable?

Here's something crazy, how about 2 Thursday night games?

 

A 6:30 start for early bird and 9 (or 9:15) start for the Broncos - Chargers.

 

Just a little bit more of an extreme change on times than we've seen with two game weeknights previously to get as much viewing in to each game.

 

No way if the kickoff for the original game was 8:15 that everybody is not going to already be there at 6:30, or at least most of the people.
