He has a point though.  If nothing matters to you unless they win in the playoffs why are you here?  You’re just venting about previous playoff failures that just comes across as whining.

He really doesn’t have a point and as far as I can tell yours is fairly limited as well. I have been here for over 20 years. I’m here to talk about the game and the Bills. This entire thread was supposed to be about Purdy, it then turned into a conversation about the prestige of two franchises. If some of that overlaps with our playoffs failures I really don’t know what to tell you. It happened. It was relevant to the conversation to discuss. I guess you can block me if all this annoys you so greatly.

With or without Purdy, we’re beating the 49ers and Rams.  Then a SB possible preview against Detroit as I don’t see any NFC team making it to the dance except Detroit.  This will be a heck of a game.

Just to pile on…I get the perspective of needing a championship to be satisfied and feel that way too. The Bills have only had a Super Bowl window 5 times in my lifetime and I would love to see them win one.

But I also don’t want to not appreciate what a special player Allen is and how lucky we are to have him on the Bills. It’s hard to believe this is his 7th season already and I am really enjoying seeing him play every week. So I don’t want to lose sight of that and try to enjoy every game he plays, win or lose.

So where would you rank the Bills success in the Josh Allen era out of the following group (listed in no particular order)?

Bills

Chiefs

Bengals

49ers

Buccs

Bengals

Eagles

Rams

Patriots

1. Chiefs

2. Patriots

3. Bucs

4. Rams

5. 49ers

6. Bengals

7. Eagles

8. Bills

Also, you listed the Bengals twice 😉

I am very much a "you are who your record says you are" kind of fan. Putting all the analytics aside, we're 9-2 for the first time ever under this regime. That's meaningful.

I also feel it's meaningful, but I do not believe "you are who your record says you are."

2022 proved that's not true. We were a better team in 2021 with a worse record. Hell, I think last year's team would've beaten Baltimore in the playoffs had we beaten the Chiefs, and this year I'm not so sure (mainly because of Henry).

I also don't think the Chiefs aren't as good as their record says they are, though that doesn't mean they couldn't win a SB.

I just don't agree with that at all. I think we are conflating "team" with "roster." The Chiefs were not the best roster in the playoffs last year. They were however far and away the best team. I will for sure take our 2024 team over our 2021 team. We have a lot more ways to win now than we did then. Back then it was nothing but the Allen fireworks show. Anything short of 300+ passing yards was a guaranteed loss against a quality opponent. We couldn't run the ball, the pass protection wasn't as stout, we had a complete lack of playmaking at MLB, our starting outside CBs were depth players in Levi Wallace and Dane Jackson (after Tre's injury obviously). We had some flash but we had a lot of fundamental weaknesses that showed up down the stretch and in the divisional round.

I genuinely feel that we have less weaknesses now. We have more playmakers on both sides of the ball which means we're less dependent on perfect execution on every play. Less missed tackles, less drops, less turnovers. What we've lost in explosive offense we've more than made up for by reducing mistakes. The offense and defense are supporting each other, playing complementary football. The infusion of youth across the roster is paying off in spades. On the whole I just think our current team is a lot more fundamentally sound and cohesive as an overall unit than it has been ever before in the Allen era. We'll see if that means anything when the playoffs come around.

This is an important point that gets overlooked way too often.  In the playoffs, eventually someone will be able to  take away your strength and force you to play left handed.  Being able to pivot and still find success is crucial.

The Bills have had FIVE Super Bowl windows??? I count two, the Kelly '90s, and the Allen era. What are the other 3?

In 1974 the Bills played the Steelers in the playoffs. In 1980-1981 the Bills were in the playoffs and if Ferguson hadn’t gotten injured, they had a shot. In 1999-2000 the Bills were in the playoffs, including the Music City Miracle.

Any playoff appearance is a Super Bowl window!

Does anyone know what the actual injury to Purdy is or is it just soreness? I imagine it’s pretty severe if he was out last week. That being said, does soreness like to at just go away?

The 49ers keep saying nothing is wrong and they’re notorious for not giving out injury issues but he missed a game and practice so something is going on beyond soreness imo. If it was sore they would have cortisone’d it and he would have played

Suddenly, the Bills might have the easiest finishing schedule of any Super Bowl contender…and we’re getting healthy at the right time…things are looking up!

But a couple years ago we had this guy 😀

Not to compare myself to an athlete in the prime of my career. But i injured my shoulder last Thanksgiving. an impingement and bursitis was the diagnosis. I could not even throw a ball with my kid for over 8 months. A year later and it still bothers me. i can’t throw anything beyond soft tossing a ball.  can’t imagine how an NFL QB can play with a shoulder injury to his throwing arm. I give Purdy respect if he takes the needle and plays with what is obviously a painful condition.

We probably need a definition of a "window."

That said, in addition to the 5 mentioned above there was also the 1966 team which had won the previous 2 AFL Championship games and was favored to win in 1966... before they were upset by the Chiefs who then represented the AFL in the first (what would later be called) Super Bowl.

The Eagles are the best team in the NFC

What is the purpose for this constant anti-Bills sentiment.

You ended with "Only to Bills fans".

Have I missed something, and you are not a Bills fan?  That would then make some sense.

The purpose is to undermine the Bills, plain and simple, and to antagonize actual Bills' fans.

It does not matter the topic, one of the haters gets onto many of the threads and then changes the subject to something negative about the Bills. It is their main purpose on this forum.  There are not many of them, but they are relentless in their hate.  Notice that many have comically negative, and aggressively so, names on here?

And the very positive threads about the Bills make them most outraged. They get on those and just pull things out of their kiesters, often as off topic as all get out, and just keep going until the thread is a negative one.

Take for example the extremely positive OP by someone recently on Amari Cooper's words after the last Bills' game, just quoting him.

I posted  early on there how in the previous  post on Cooper, a hate post, was inundated by the haters to a comical point. They were ust throwing out completely made up nonsense against Cooper, with nothing  to support the ludicrous comments-- things just made up out of thin air about our new 5 time Pro Bowler wide receiver. To get to their motivation--I think they are worried Cooper may be the last piece of the puzzle for the Bills.  Then their lives (on this forum) would become meaningless, Bills' haters trying to survive in a world where the Bills are NFL champions. (As they may need a lot of professional support starting later this winter, we should plan on creating several 'go fund me' pages for them.)

Then, in that new very positive thread about Cooper, they did it again, with the first hit across the bow going as low as they can go, saying Cooper was  "a loser's loser".

I now think the answer is to just ignore the haters completely, don't give them any air to breathe in this forum. I have not been good at that myself, as I want to defend the Bills and true fans.  BUT I realize now that they thrive on the negativity and conflict; it is exactly what they want, their sustenance. So ignoring them is likely my new approach.  If everyone does the same, it will just become the haters responding to the other haters, and that won't be any fun for them, as it defeats their purpose. So let's do it, as they can make this forum a negative free for all.

As I have said before there is no changing them, making them positive, logical, or rational, and that day after the Bills win the Super Bowl they likely already have their supremely negative attack lines powered up and ready to go.

Purdy waits. And if SF has a shot at the playoffs with a three game season ending run, then Purdy plays again. If they lose and are knocked out, he’ll be “hurt again”. That’s the plan for him. Now what’s CMC’s?? He came back for thissss

Did you not watch Philadelphia on Sunday night?  They are tough and physical.  If they play Detroit, it’s going to be a war.
