If Purdy [doesn't] play we are most likely getting Brandon Allen.

And if we get Brandon Allen, expect a steady dose of McCaffrey pounding our defensive front and LB's, chewing up time of possession, adding in a bit of Deebo from the RB slot as well.  Any team that has RB assets has watched the Baltimore tape and will be trying to expose our run defense.  KC's best RB was hurt as I recall.

If he's not 100% then it doesn't hurt to rest him but they've already played a majority of their division games. Only cards and rams are left. So resting him for division wins isn't a benefit. And they have only the Lions as a true challenge to remain. The bears and the fins round out the rest of their schedule

Load the box and sell out to stop the run. Making a team one-dimensional is what you want in the nfl. They don’t have Lamar to also account for.

Ya it might be a must win for them next week also. If SF loses today and lose to the bills next week, SF would have to basically win out with a tough schedule remaining

If they lose both games I doubt even winning out does it. Arizona will take the west.

You don't think 10-7 would get them in as a wild card though?

I'd take that all day long! Run after run? We would shut them down. One dimensional over time gives them a big L baby! Will Milano be back?!? We could sub in Spector/Milano/Bernard/Williams... or front 4 subs... brick wall baby. We will roast SF either way... their D can't keep up with us. This game will be a snooze fest. Bills pound them either way.

I can’t believe I had to defend McBeane being a better duo than Shanahan and Lynch here last year. Just 3 examples of fireable moves:

1) They chose some guy named Soloman Thomas #3 overall with their first ever pick as a duo. He’s no Josh Allen.

2) The Trey Lance debacle. Yep, #3 overall again. Not to mention what they gave up for Trey.
3) You do NOT put that much collateral into a rb. Especially an injury prone rb. $16 million a year for a rb.?!

Lynch and Shanahan < McBeane and it’s not even close.

It would need one of the 8 win Vikings, the 7 win Packers (who would have the h2h) and the 7 win Commanders (cake walk schedule including 2 games v the hapless Cowboys) to collapse down the stretch.

Wow ya you're right. I just checked the nfc standings and forgot it was that deep this year.

Usually 9-8 gets you in the playoffs in the NFC, but this year is a different story

I just posted about this on the previous page. If SF loses to both the Packers and Bills, their playoff chances are less than 10%. If they win out the rest of the way, they can get it to about 50-60%.

*8 win Packers (your post assumes 49ers lose to Packers today)

Eh, not scared of them either way. It’s their year from hell and they aren’t good. Much less in a cold game in Buffalo. That’s why schedule rankings before the season are so dumb.  Our schedule looked so tough but it’s pretty meh.

for the 49ers, they are in a tough spot. I certainly think Purdy is solid. But without a ton of talent around him, and theirs is getting old, is he really elevating your franchise? I don’t think so.

I think Purdy is basically Tua. They are both pretty good. Definitely starting QBs. They've shown they can effectively use playmakers (not all QBs can, so that's something). But I don't think either will really carry their team to a win, and I wouldn't break the bank of a huge contract for either.

You put him with Tua eh? I for sure see your argument as you can say they both play in a good sytem, but IMHO I think Tua is much better.

Tua is significantly better, IMO.  The only real similarities in the pros are that they’ve both been blessed with some awesome weapons and offensive minded HCs.

The difference is Purdy wins games...while Tua not so much.   At the end, it is the W-L record that counts.

Purdy being NFC Tua mostly works for me as a comp, except I'd rather have Purdy 10 times out of 10 IRL. His weapons have been oft-injured, he's an underrated runner (and thrower tbh) and he plays in the same system for the most part as Tua, who happens to also have absolute game breakers at nearly every skill position around him in Miami (minus O-line sometimes)...

Purdy is better than Tua when the play breaks down. I'll take Purdy with slight edge over Tua.

FWIW, in Mike Sando's popular annual preseason feature regarding QB Tiers, Purdy is in Tier 2 at #12 whereas Tua is in Tier 3 at #15.

"A Tier 2 quarterback can carry his team sometimes but not as consistently. He can handle pure-passing situations in doses and/or possesses other dimensions that are special enough to elevate him above Tier 3. He has a hole or two in his game."

"A Tier 3 quarterback is a legitimate starter but needs a heavier running game and/or defensive component to win. A lower-volume dropback passing offense suits him best."

Finally someone said it. Shanahan might be a good coach, but everything has to be exactly how he wants it. He would not do well with a QB like Josh Allen.

I, for one, think Shanahan is overrated.

I wouldn't say overrated though all coaches and players have limitations/weaknesses.

Shanahan is still one of the top offensive minds in the game and I think deservedly so.

JMO.

That RB was offensive player of the year last year. Two Super Bowls to our tandems zero. They made so many good draft picks and decisions that your call outs don’t even matter.  I know we just won our first Super Bowl last week but some perspective is ok.

Who did SF lose to in said super bowls.

So they get no credit for winning two games a year in the postseason that we never did? Bengals mixed in there as well right not just KC? I know. Injuries. They have done more than us. The idea that it’s laughable to compare them to our tandem who has done less, is in itself laughable.
