That why it didn’t really matter. Trump is going to appoint some clown and no one is worse that him. Trump has 26 women claim some sort of sexually harassment to flat out rape. Matt G. Was a light weight.

Forcing the picks was, and I believe still is being discussed.  I had heard that there were at least 8 hard no's from senators on Gaetz, and he personally named 4 that would certainly doom him, so that made forcing his appointment that much harder in the public eye.  Confirmation hearings would have almost certainly forced the release of what appears to be a damning report, and he knows they'll be voting on that shortly.  If he removed himself now, I think that makes the vote on releasing it passing much less likely.  That report could harm him politically and in the private sector.  This was probably his best move. Like you said, he's looking for loyalty, so one nominee is really no different than the other.

I'm just going through this thread laughing as if Gaetz resigning is some sort of Democratic victory.  You just lost the presidential election and Republicans won a majority in the House and Senate.  It's like bragging that we scored a field goal down 58-0.

Well at the very least it's comforting to know that Gaetz has brains enough to see that his nomination has been a distraction to the new administration and has done what needed to be done so he can go forward with no outside noise to pin on him in the end .

Gaetz was a trial balloon.  He gets through, trump establishes absolute control over the legislature.  He doesn't get through, the "MSM" can be blamed.  It's actually brilliant.  And it doesn't really matter to trump who is over the agencies.  Anyone appointed will be his yes man and do his bidding without resistance.

The OP title perfectly represents the stubborn childlike mentality of progressives.

 

Going after Gaetz would have been reasonable and agreed with by a vast majority of Americans, but as always, progressives don't know how to quit while they are ahead.

 

Their goal will be to pout, whine and resist every cabinet nomination. They will also try to stalemate the country from advancing anything for four years like they did during Trump's first term. Thankfully they do not have any majorities. Also nice is that more people see past the BS. If they keep trying this, they will continue to lose in 2026 and 2028.
