I think you really nailed it there.  These times are a changing.  I feel it around me all the time now.  Sometimes it can be tough to accept to but then I think of the Marv Levy quote "If you don't change with the times, the times change you"

Totally, gone are the days of sold out Stadiums and arena's with people sleeping out for 15.00 tickets.. with music that was really ... well at least to me music.. we are in the days of the beat and the feel.... the rest dont matter... now... in that vein... I would love Uptown Funk to be the back up LOL...

The Killers are Indy Pop. Offspring were Alt Rock sure, but the rest of those are Emo bands.

Today, "classic rock" is music from the 90s. Bands like the Eagles, BOC, Rush, America, Chicago, Foghat, Boston, etc, are called "Yacht Rock" because it's music for old, rich, retired people.

Not quite.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yacht_rock

Those are still in rotation on classic rock stations but as time passes anything older than 20 years seems to become eligible for the "Classic Rock" label.  In the 90s most classic rock stations were spinning Zeppelin, Stones, The Doors, and even as recent as Bon Jovi.  Most of that music was barely over 20 years old.   In 2024, we are farther removed from Nirvana's last album (31 years) than Nirvana's last album was from the release of Stairway to Heaven (22 years).  As far as the kids are concerned, 90s alt, grunge, and hair metal is ancient.

I listened to the Pats radio broadcast during the Bills Pats game and the Pats broadcasters were mocking bills fans pretty good with the Mr. Brightside thing

"so odd"

"it isn't even new, its not their song, college teams have been doing this with that song long before this"

etc. etc.

I have a bus full of friends from the Boston area who attend the Pats @ Bills game every season for the last 15 or so years.  They love our stadium and atmosphere and loathe the Gillette experience

First off if the players are behind it I don’t care what any of you think. If it’s something that brings the team together that’s all that matters. Go bills!

go google the lyrics I think it’s a great song for this team. Ignore the sexual stuff.

I wanna hear it Sunday 😃

And it's all in my head, but she's touching his

"[Pre-Chorus]
Chest now
He takes off her dress now
Let me go
And I just can't look, it's killing me
They're taking control

[Chorus]
Jealousy
Turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibi
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside"

These are the most unlikely lyrics that anyone could conceive of to motivate an NFL roster in-game.  Makes little sense.

Not a lot of people pay attention to lyrics until they hear "Destiny is calling me" and they're hooked.

No Brightside this week.  Replace with Slipknot.  Show em we ain't f'n around.   Go Bills.

No chance, Josh just mentioned in his presser he likes it.

I hate it.  I mean, I like it philosophically becuase it means the game is in the bag. But man...its a horrible song...the Thomas the Tank Engine theme song has more balls to it.

Wow, can't understand the hate on this one. The whole vibe of the stadium is fantastic during the song. What's the complaint if the crowd obviously enjoys it, along with the players.

Same.

There is plenty of hard rock, hip hop, rock classics played throughout the game.  "Jump Around" segways into the 4th quarter.  The purpose of this song is a nice, triumphant, fun sing-along when the Bills are coming in on offense with the game in the bag.  It serves a different purpose than something I might listen to before I enter an MMA match or what comes on 97 Rock in my garage working on a car.

Honestly, never cared for the song either, but when it came on in that Patriots Wild Card game and everyone organically sang it, it immediately hit with me.

It’s crazy how concerts in the early days of the modern music industry (1950’s and early 1960’s) used to be money loss promotional events. People were seeing Elvis for the inflation adjusted equivalent of 30-45 dollars in small venues of 1000-2500 people. They just did the shows so people would buy the albums and tell their friends to buy the albums.

It took the Beatles doing arena/baseball/football venues making millions on high volume shows to change the industry. But before TicketMaster became the price gouger it is and digital markets made scalping and setting markets higher much easier there were at least relatively affordable tickets for big arena shows for the most part esp if you were willing to wait a few hours in line.
