Huge turning point in their season when they embraced that song. Might not seem like much to you but definitely gave that team a different mindset moving forward. When the Redsox were down 3 games to the Yankees the players all took a shot of whiskey or rum before game 4, then continued it the rest of playoffs and went on to win the World Series. Some ***** can’t be explained it just works for ya. Not gonna work forever so you might as well ride it out as long as you can. Edited November 22 by BananaB 1 1 Quote

Nats started playing Baby Shark in 2019 (walk up song for a player who picked it for his daughter) and it became a phenomenon. Whole ballpark went nuts for it every time. Rode it all the way to a World Series victory. Doesn’t matter what the song is… if it becomes the thing, you ride that dragon if it’s tied to a winning streak. 3 1 1 Quote

I need to go find video of them playing it there. Have the Bills lost when they’ve played Mr. Brightside yet? Not sure if they played it at the playoff game against the Chiefs last year. If so, it’s time to find a new song. Maybe “If You’re Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands”. 🤣🤣 Quote

Started 18-43 or something like that too, didn’t they? EDITED TO ADD: I think Baby Shark was the catcher’s (not Kurt Suzuki, the other guy’s) walkup music if I’m not mistaken. Not sure what the backstory behind that choice was. Edited November 23 by RiotAct Quote

It really was incredible… greatest postseason run of all time for my money. So many moments. It was Gerardo Parra’s song. Brought an infectious energy and the baby shark song. It all started to turn around when they started playing that damn song lol. Here’s a good clip on it They even put a shark on the inside of the ring. 2 1 1 Quote

For example, “don’t stop believing” at Detroit red wings games. That ties naturally to basically the “don’t stop believing we are going to win” and the lyric about being “raised in south Detroit.” Same with renegade. Those opening lyrics are a perfect metaphor for the Steelers defense about to wreak havoc! On the video during Steelers games, you see it clearly, as they show that defense just wrecking people— the hangman coming! but I can’t find a single lyric in Mr. Brightside that works for a football game or the Bills, even as a metaphor! Great song, but way too lyrically specific. What about Sweet Caroline at Red Sox game? That’s probably the most popular stadium anthem of all. 1 Quote
Straight Hucklebuck Posted November 24 Posted November 24 (edited) WNY really likes alternative, going back to Offspring in the 1990’s. Might as well play Ocean Avenue in Orchard Park for how much sense Mr. Brightside in 2024 makes. WNY has always liked The Killers, All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, etc. Edited November 24 by Straight Hucklebuck 1 Quote

It is a catchy song, but the lyrics/meaning are so unbelievably out of place to be played at a football game. It just feels bizarre that that is the Bills song. It’s about some dude catching his girlfriend cheating! anyone have a similar reaction? Couldn't agree more, mane. This might be more fitting, ya dig? 1 Quote
DrPJax Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I’m just an Old school guy, old Rick guy here, too. What song woukd better fit the Buffalo area, the working class ethic , the northern area and bordering canada, , than the classic Rush tune , WORKING MAN ? It never gets old , instantly recognizable, perfect lyrics, is a tune from A Rock and roll HOF BAND, HAS LYRICS that anyone can sing along with , builds up and rocks out and nothing beats those opening chords / lyrics. You could cut the solo a little and change one word if you wanted too. I get up at 7 yeah and go to work by 9. I got no time for the ( put team name in ) Chiefs , yeah , cuz I’m working all the time ! It seems to me I could live my live a lot better than I think I am, It seems to me I could live my life a lot better than any CHIEFS fan, I guess that’s why they call me , they call me the working man , I guess that’s what I am , I guess that what they call , they call me the BILLS MAFIA , MAN ! cuz that’s what I am , the BILLS MAFIA , MAN ! I get hone at 5 o clock , and I take myself out a nice cold beer , seems I’m always wonderin why there’s nothing going down here ! it seems to me I could live my live a lot better than any Chiefs fan , I guess that’s why they call me , they call me BILLS MAFIA , MAN ! Thats why they call me ,,, BILLS MAFIA, MAN! CUE A SHORTENED VERSION OF THE GREAT GUITAR SOLO , then to the lyric one more time with Bills Mafia Pics or shots of live fans in the stands enjoying their “ soft drinks” ! just a thought , but who works harder than the BILLS OR THE MAFIA ? And it would fit with a football game background I just don’t get the alt Rick Mr brightside to get players ready to hit etc, but if it’s working , then yeah , I’m superstitious enough to not mess w it ! Just don’t get the choice to start with ! lol! Go bills! Quote

College been doing it for years with different songs catching on and still being sung decades later. Mr Brightside is a popular sing along song. The ilk of Dont stop believing or Living on a prayer. Playing a song thats 20 years old instead of 40 or 50 years old is just the changing of times. More people are likely to know it and the words now with younger people growing up with it. Complaining about the lyrics or it’s not your favorite song/ band makes that person the old man yelling at clouds. Quote
