My unpopular opinion:  that song SUCKS.  It's manic, confined to a very narrow melodic range (basically just the same few notes over and over again), sung in a very nasal and annoying timbre.  I hate it.  It's a bland anthem about nothing.

Like in the previous thread about the song in September, I'm begrudgingly fine with it. We needed a Renegade-style song to energize the stadium in key situations. And since the song seems to mean something to the players, that's all that matters in the end.

 

The song is at best a word salad, but then again, I've been singing Red Hot Chili Peppers and Aerosmith lyrics that make no sense my whole life. The real gut punch is that Knox probably heard it as an 8 year old in between episodes of Jimmy Neutron and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

It's almost like it was written as the bridge for some other song.  It would be a great bridge.  It's a terrible standalone song.

Yep. It's not my favorite song, but now it's the Bills' song so... I'm all in. Get with the program, learn the lyrics, and sing your lungs out whenever they play it at the game. The team loves it (the song and the energy from the crowd when it plays), so just do it.

I do agree with those that say that maybe the lyrics don’t entirely matter. The issue though is some of the lyrics are just plain awkward. “Her hand on his chest. Taking off her dress.” Awkward for a stadium anthem.

I get what your saying, but I have a very different take... in the song the image of love lost was actually all in Brandon Flower's head. The pain and jealousy those mental images produced was real. The effect those emotions had on his behavior was real as well. But the underlying cause was all in his head.

 

I see a lot of parallels with our boys (and ourselves). After all, we've all been through sooooo much, for soooo long. That was just the price we paid for the insecurities in our minds. It was limiting us. But we're coming out of our cage... and were doing just fine, now.

 

Destiny is calling us.

 

We're all Mr Brighside !!

A part of the fanbase and some of the players enjoy it being played during a game…nothing more, nothing less.

Very good points.  It's songs that have been so misinterpreted.  Most people don't care at all and use it for opposite reasoning.

I don't understand totally what makes Mr. Brightside a stadium song, but it doesn't bother me at all.

 

It seems to me people only see their point of view which many times makes no sense at all.

I have friends saying I need go to church more but still sing "Hell's Bells" when it's on the radio, like they did when they were 18.
