jimmynunn Posted Thursday at 02:53 PM Posted Thursday at 02:53 PM I typically get to 2 games a year, and the Chiefs game was my first this season. I had heard about Mr. Brightside becoming the Bills anthem, but had not experienced it till this game. WOW...just WOW. When it came on in the 4th quarter, with the Bills ahead but the game not done yet, I couldn't believe how the energy, in the stands, on the Bills sideline, and in the Bills huddle, kicked up even further. The fans stood and sang, and a lot of the guys on the sideline were bouncing around, mostly the TE group, Mac Hollins, Toohill, and a few others. And the guys on the field , waiting for the tv timeout to be over, were jumping around as well. It is truly the fans and team coming together. If you haven't been to a game yet this year, I'd encourage you to go on you tube and find any of the dozen clips in there. Just a great tradition that apparently sprung up organically, not one forced on the game, like that train whistle. 5 Quote
Slippery Rubber Mats Posted Thursday at 02:57 PM Posted Thursday at 02:57 PM It's fun. I love the train whistle though 2 2 Quote
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted Thursday at 03:02 PM Posted Thursday at 03:02 PM I am torn on the Mr. brightside thing. It is a catchy song, but the lyrics/meaning are so unbelievably out of place to be played at a football game. It just feels bizarre that that is the Bills song. It’s about some dude catching his girlfriend cheating! anyone have a similar reaction? 8 10 5 Quote

But I'm cool with it.... everyone seems to love it. 1 Quote

May Day 10 Posted Thursday at 03:11 PM Posted Thursday at 03:11 PM It started rather organically during the Patriots' "perfect game". They played it in the second half and it was a wild sing along. They had done it a few times since and the same thing. Since the Dawson Knox wedding thing, and maybe them putting 2&2 together, it seems to be a "scheduled" thing. *Also, it has been a Michigan Wolverines football thing for a few years. 2 1 Quote

Not only played at Knox's wedding, but apparently when it came on the team rushed Knox and his bride and carried them around the dance floor. I don't know why that particular song. Maybe the stuff about going to bed and taking off her dress? They can't have conceptualized it as a song about the GF cheating and the BF being "Mr Brightside" and moving on - tots inappropriate for a wedding. Anyway, it's linked up with Good Times for the team, especially the TE group, and it's become their "thing" 44 minutes ago, Miyagi-Do Karate said: I am torn on the Mr. brightside thing. I mean, Renegade is about a fearful criminal getting caught and punished, what exactly says "Go Team Go!" about that? Edited Thursday at 03:40 PM by Beck Water 2 2 Quote

I don't get it and I don’t see how people get “pumped” from that song. I could see it for a higher energy, more related song etc, this one baffles me. 3 Quote
MJS Posted Thursday at 03:42 PM Posted Thursday at 03:42 PM It's a little odd. A song about a girl cheating on a guy. But whatever. 1 1 Quote

I mean, Renegade is about a fearful criminal getting caught and punished, what exactly says "Go Team Go!" about that? I don’t know. All the stadium anthems that I can think of have strong and relevant lyrical ties. For example, “don’t stop believing” at Detroit red wings games. That ties naturally to basically the “don’t stop believing we are going to win” and the lyric about being “raised in south Detroit.” Same with renegade. Those opening lyrics are a perfect metaphor for the Steelers defense about to wreak havoc! On the video during Steelers games, you see it clearly, as they show that defense just wrecking people— the hangman coming! but I can’t find a single lyric in Mr. Brightside that works for a football game or the Bills, even as a metaphor! Great song, but way too lyrically specific. Quote
