Now multiple outlets are posting what a terrible disturbing act that was. Granted, most everyone reading this on this forum is a Bills fan but are others bothered by this? I see it as fans being fans and it’s not a big deal. Agree or disagree? It’s honestly embarrassing how soft and toxically outraged society has become. I mean it’s sports rivalries…it’s as close to anything goes as it gets. It’s sports banter which is the basis of why sports are as big as they are. To take it serious is just a silly concept. Dont get me wrong, there are still lines that you can’t cross that go too far, but those are blatantly obvious and have more literal meanings and interpretations (like using racial slurs for example). At this point I almost root for people to do and say things that get the “outrage police” out in full force just to troll them. And he does look like Kermit, so this was funny. The perpetrators made it about race, although, perhaps, unknowingly. Their actions must be condemned. Go ahead then, condemn the actions, and then move on like the rest of us. Quote

We generally agree, but hanging anything from ropes, especially if in reference to a black guy, just doesn’t need to be done. Quote

If it's actually a noose, No. i'd argue that no one ties a noose because no one really knows how to tie a noose. if it's just a slipknot it does not count as a noose because it is just the easiest knot to tighten around something. how else would you suspend the doll? i didn't get a close look at it but it was hanging over the CBS set - it looked like the string came from the head. in short: if its not that knot then we cannot know the knot was not used maliciously. Pot meeting kettle. BTW i have a Juris Doctorate in law. So there. Quote

I'll just add that white people used to get lynched as well. It happened to a lot of people back then, sometimes because they were criminals. I'm not excusing the practice or that it happened out of racism to black people. That is also a fact. I just wanted to bring proper historical context that lynching was commonly done back then to a lot of different groups for a variety or reasons. Over time, in the late 1800s, it began to be used as a tool of racism specifically targeting blacks, but even then it still happened to white people. The noose itself isn't from the practice of lynching, though. It comes from public executions by way of hanging which has been going on for a long, long time and is not a racial thing. Probably some dumb kids that thought it was funny without thinking about it. But the point is, we don't KNOW that....and regardless, as a nation who still has a lot of work to do with race relations and in some ways has just covered up the issues better and pretend they don't exist now, it's just not a good look. It's a different kind of disturbing to pretend that this isn't a hanging of Mahomes as a joke. I'm not saying it's racism. But it is symbolic of the lynchings and systemic racism in the south and offensive to at least some members of the black community. I know because I've discussed with some of my friends/acquaintances. It's disappointing and it would be nice if these Mafia members had more class to find a different way to get this joke across. Acts of bad taste, and a lack of class, can be found at most any football game. Social media amplifies most everything. It is unfortunate, that Bills fans will be painted with a broad brush in certain circles, over something as idiotic, as this. Quote

Simon Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Once again we have a multi-page thread about people being outraged, with zero evidence of people actually being outraged. That is going to be the primary reason this thread gets shut down shortly. The secondary reason is that I don't like suspending people, have already had to do it once and don't want to have to do it again. 2 1 Quote
MJS Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago 11 minutes ago, Bob Chandler's Hands said: Everyone knows people call Mahomes "Kermit" (because of his voice, not his appearance) and that Mahomes is a black guy. So if you think that hanging a character clearly meant to be Mahomes in effigy outside the stadium is OK, you're at least an a**hole, and maybe an overt racist. I am not saying there is any legal action against these folks. One could argue it's free speech since it was in fact a muppet doll, not an actual Mahomes doll (which would truly be hanging in effigy). So go ahead and do it all you want. But at my core I'm an old school libertarian and don't think racism should be illegal. I just think it's total trash behavior and disgusting. Well, there are some here claiming that it was three black men who did it. I'm not sure what exactly that means, but I think it probably was not of racist intent if that is indeed the case. But this is a football forum and nobody here is going to convince anyone of anything. I think this thread should get locked and we should all move on with our day. Quote

Now is probably a good time for me to get back to work. We don’t know it was white guys who did it. In fact, there are several posters who said they observed 3 black guys doing it and they’ve done it before. If that’s true, it makes this thread even more ridiculous. As an American of Italian decent, I find the term Bill Mafia offensive because of the negative connotation of some of my more entrepreneurial brethren. Actually no I don’t. I couldn’t care less. I just think the term Bills Mafia is dumb Edited 7 hours ago by RunTheBall 1 Quote
