Perhaps you could explain to me, in the history of the world, how many people have been murdered by dildos? I can think of one, and that's just rumor. Quote
Blackbeard Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I premise this all with saying I have a very thick skin. But using a noose for anything is wrong. It's very much seen as a symbol of the horrible times during slavery. It was a classless act by some people in this fanbase. Not representative of us as a whole. 1 Quote
f0neguy Posted November 21 Author Posted November 21 Warning for what? If I had to guess I’d say whoever hung the doll isn’t racist. Poor taste? Sure. Where’s the outrage for the 70,000 KC fans doing the war chant and tomahawk chop before every game (obvious racist overtones). I’ve been to multiple stadiums and seen mascots and effigies of players hung and it wasn’t a big deal. 2 Quote

Because absolutes and outrage are always a winning combo. Look, it was in bad taste, but they did it because it was an opponent and a rival, not because of race. You are choosing to make it about race and trying to force us all to go along with it. Cut it out. If it is that offensive to you, find the three people that put it up (who happen to be black according to other TBD posters who were there), and tell them why they are racists. It was a poor judgement call and nothing else. Edited November 21 by dgrochester55 5 1 1 Quote

BADOLBILZ Posted November 21 Posted November 21 (edited) It's good that it's being talked about because the lynching stuff needs to go. Just in very poor taste and it's not been an uncommon thing for people to put jerseys on a dummy or stuffed animal and hang an opposing player in effigy at Bills tailgates/games. I know that Bills fans could have taken a sign that said "Mahomes is a (gay slur)" into the stadium if it were 20-30 years ago and it would have gotten a lot of laughs but that kind of thing got rightfully quashed and so should the lynching stuff. Be more creative. Edited November 21 by BADOLBILZ 1 Quote

hondo in seattle Posted November 21 Posted November 21 (edited) I'm personally not offended. It's just Kermit in a Mahomes jersey. That's not the same as hanging Mahomes in effigy which would be offensive in my mind. On the other hand, some people are offended and that's a problem. Not to be pessimistic, but it seems to me that life sh*ts on all of us enough (illness, old age, letters from the IRS, etc.) that we shouldn't sh*t on each other. Edit: I just read through the entire thread, looked at the image again, and reconsidered my position. Forget any earlier ambivalence... It's offensive. Edited November 21 by hondo in seattle 1 Quote
SF Bills Fan Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I loved it and thought it was hilarious. Worry about things that deserve to be worried about, I say. 1 Quote

Maybe not you, but to some, yes. And maybe be a little more conscious to that. Do i think there is an err of racism involved with the kermit thing? No. But again, it was in poor taste (if indeed it was a noose). Quote

Any event involving something even resembling a noose is considered a hate crime in modern society. For Gods sake, bible verses are considered hate speech so a picture of a noose is a totally offensive thing . People are way to over sensitive !!! Edited November 21 by T master Quote

I do realize that I don’t need a lesson. I have a Bachelor in History/Education. And it wasn’t a noose so the whole outrage from people is misplaced. Quote

BarleyNY Posted November 21 Posted November 21 (edited) https://amp.tmz.com/2024/11/17/bills-fans-hang-kermit-puppet-mahomes-jersey-chiefs-game/ Pic here. I don’t see a noose. Big difference between saying “ha ha, Mahomes looks like Kermit” and hanging him in effigy with a noose. Edited November 21 by BarleyNY 2 1 Quote

Now multiple outlets are posting what a terrible disturbing act that was. Granted, most everyone reading this on this forum is a Bills fan but are others bothered by this? I see it as fans being fans and it’s not a big deal. Agree or disagree? It’s honestly embarrassing how soft and toxically outraged society has become. I mean it’s sports rivalries…it’s as close to anything goes as it gets. It’s sports banter which is the basis of why sports are as big as they are. To take it serious is just a silly concept. Dont get me wrong, there are still lines that you can’t cross that go too far, but those are blatantly obvious and have more literal meanings and interpretations (like using racial slurs for example). At this point I almost root for people to do and say things that get the “outrage police” out in full force just to troll them. And he does sound like Kermit, so this was funny.
