Like i said initially, we need comedy, we need to relax on being offended by every little thing... we have to laugh more... but to me hanging anyone in effigy is tasteless. Racist?  I personally dont believe there was racial intent, but some do... and I get that... to me it doesnt matter... I just dont like the fact that we are hanging anything in effigy... just my opinion...

40 years ago was 1984.  50 years ago, it was legal and acceptable for banks to deny a credit card to a woman, because she was a woman.  56 years ago, it was legal and acceptable to deny a mortgage or refuse to sell a home to a black family.  The attitudes behind that didn't disappear when the law changed.

 

I don't know you, and I don't want to judge you - though you do seem happy to judge others - but I'd like to respectfully suggest that what you consider the "good old days" when you could drape nooses around your construction site and you think no one had "hurt feelings" or considered it "offensive", probably means that the people who found it offensive considered that they had to "go along to get along" and could not, safely, object.

In my experience, when someone starts yelping about how "we live in an age of hurt feelings" where "people are easily triggered", what it really means is  I could chat with them for 20 minutes and come away knowing EXACTLY what to say and what jokes to tell to offend THEM and have THEM squirming uncomfortably.

I get where people could be offended.  I dont see it as a racial act.  If the above picture is the one in question.  Yes, it is hanging from a pole. Which sounds bad. It is not hung up with a noose depicting  hanging Mahomes.  Its put up a flag pole.  Now I have 0 doubt that other more graphic depiction probably exists.

Very poor taste. I get we see people have mascots strung up, like a Buffalo or Dolphin, but something that directly represents a player is totally different.

 

The implication is hang Patrick Mahommes, and that’s pretty effed up.

I, too, am pretty old and I remember about 1980 some Ithaca College kids on Halloween dressed up as KKK members escorting a guy in black face and chains who was carrying a sign saying "Eat at Sambos."  They were all suspended and a few were expelled.  Even though the things you say were true back then, even then we knew that racially insensitive jokes were not cool and making them had consequences.  People have this sense that 50 years ago we could dress in black face or make jokes that make an allusion (intentional or not) to lynching and everyone would laugh and be okay with it.  That just wasn't the case.

I have never been a fan of "Bills Mafia" personally.  So I'm being consistent.  So funny that some here immediately make this political and call people libby's, etc.  This is not a political discussion.  It's in bad taste IMHO, that's the point.  No one (or very few, I assume) are "outraged" over this.

Yes, everyone knows Mahomes sounds like Kermit.  The added hair and jersey seem to indicate that also.  It's a different kind of disturbing to pretend that this isn't a hanging of Mahomes as a joke.

 

I'm not saying it's racism.  But it is symbolic of the lynchings and systemic racism in the south and offensive to at least some members of the black community.  I know because I've discussed with some of my friends/acquaintances.

 

It's disappointing and it would be nice if these Mafia members had more class to find a different way to get this joke across.

A noose is a hanging.  Tying a string to a puppet is not a hanging - strings on puppets are natural.

 

Next there will be offense of Reid and Mahones being dressed up as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.
