Uproar over Hanging Kermit

It was in poor taste and shouldn't have been done, but some in the media will blow it out of proportion turning it from a three or four to a nine or ten on the drama scale. Part of the media's job in 2024 is to tell everyone who or what to be outraged and pissed at next.

Suspect people know fine well they are clutching at straws if they think some bunch of drunks hung the effigy as a reference to slavery and lynchings tbh

 

They just ***** hate Mahomes (respectable position) and this was their heavy handed way of showing it. We all know it's not a political or racial commentary. Tbh a reasonable chance they don't even realise Mahomes is black 😂

I don’t really care either way. The Bills fans have been doing this since I was born in the mid 80s. The person who did it I would almost guarantee didn’t do it with that intent in his/her mind. 
 

I remember the Bills yearbook one year showing the Bills hanging a Dolphin by a stick. I fully realize that a Dolphin isn’t the same here. Just shows some Bills fans haven’t evolved with the times

Agreed, but that is an important subtlety here:  The (theoretical) drunken idiots likely didn't even conceive of how what they did might be perceived.  In an ideal world, you need to step in the shoes of others and realize it's in poor taste and could be taken as a racial slur.  And also in poor taste for other reasons.

I think it's way over the top.  Hanging a player in effigy is crap.  How would you like it if an opposing team had a doll showing Allen being hung, or stabbed, or bloody and dismembered? 

Then add in that Mahomes is black, and from Texas - a state that has a documented history of at least 600 lynchings of black people between 1896 and 1945 and it has racist overtones.

 

Frankly, dismissing it as "fans being fans" is IMO not a good look for you.  Dismissing anything that involves actual assault/murder or depictions of actual assault/murder as "fans being fans" or "boys being boys" or whatever is just..... Ick.

I am not one who is overly tolerant of those who get offended by stuff that is supposed to be a joke... like we have to laugh at ourselves and not take things too seriously... that being said... No. Hanging anything in effigy is not funny and doing so if you actually mean it is threatening and if you are trying to be funny is tasteless.
