Be careful with the jelly beans. One Easter our young son snuck off and ate every jelly bean in his basket. A few hours later he’s in his PJ’s on the couch being cradled by my wife. He’s screaming “WHAT KIND OF MOTHER ARE YOU?!?! I NEED A DOCTOR!!!” And then he vomited jelly beans, some apparently un-chewed, all over her. She’s an awesome mother! I promise. . Despite the added difficulty and expense the dish resulted in something that was no better than a turkey IMO. Edited November 22 by BarleyNY 1 Quote

Augie Posted November 22 Posted November 22 Our current head count is expected to be 14-16, which is well down from years past. My sister and a family we have literally spent the last 25+ Thanksgivings with both asked what they could bring. We said nobody on earth knows better than you people what we have on the Thanksgiving table. Bring something else that you’d like. I’m curious. Quote
Johnny Hammersticks Posted November 23 Posted November 23 I tried making my stuffing with sautéed oysters last year, but it stunk up the joint something terrible like hard working coochie. Quote

I had a similar experience. Our current dressing is a variation of a David Rosengarten recipe, using ground pork and/or sausage, corn bread/baguette, pecans, celery, onions, sage, thyme, chicken broth and lots of butter. Quote

Miyagi-Do Karate Posted November 24 Posted November 24 This thread has inspired me to serve up this year something unusual. I make a pretty great authentic Szechuan style spicy sautéed string beans. Maybe I will serve those instead of something more classic like green bean almondine. Quote

It’s about food, but it’s really about family and friends. 2 1 Quote

Even though they've been doing this for decades, they still have to discuss and debate who is bringing what every year. Quote
