Terrance Gray a candidate for Jets GM job?

I agree if you think he's clearly the best person for the job, you hire him.

 

However if it's close between he and another candidate (or two), then other factors might come into play...

Don't think so. I mean I'd never say never if Josh lobbies for him. But I think they'd go another route.

Because for most people, they only get one chance at these opportunities. Even if he failed, he could be like Brian Gaine and just come right back to a front office role.

This has been answered a lot. Daboll and McDermott are not on great terms. So you can never say never, but it's very likely neither one is interested in a reunion.

 

Even if they were on good terms.. Daboll never being able to figure out how to have even a semblance of a running game would likely generate little interest in a return.

I can't remember the thread, maybe the Joe Brady thread, that Terrance Gray was the most likely guy to leave the organization this year as he has been in a high level position here and its about his time to take on being the GM of his own team. I don't think I specifically mentioned the Jets but I think that would be a bad move for him but I also understand that not many of those opportunities come along very often.

 

Its funny because they lost Gaine to Houston and he got fired and came back to essentially replace Schoen and its very possible that Gray gets a GM job and Schoen could get fired and return to take Gray's role.

 

Plus Gray would come with the addition of 2 3rd round picks from the league.

It's so strange that the Bills are one of the best run organizations in the NFL and the Sabres one of the worst with the same owner.  

Here's the rub on them being with the Giants.  It takes much more than two people to successfully run an organization.  When Beane came on board he surrounded himself with top notch front office people.

It's behind a pay wall but in brief Jeremy Fowler suggests Terrance Gray would be one of a few names on the shortlist for the Jets GM job. If that were to happen, Bills would get two extra 3rd round picks, so keep your fingers crossed! 

Why would I keep my fingers crossed for a key piece of the Bills front office to go to their division rival for two 3rd round picks?  I am sure he will eventually leave but it will not be a cause for celebration, especially if he goes to the Jets.

Given how Daboll/Schoen fizzled out with the Giants maybe teams will not dip into the Bills pool too much? I doubt that, because no matter how poorly Pats coaches and executives frequently did in other stops they always got poached.

Considering how Gray has worked his way up through multiple good teams and proven himself at every stop it’s obvious he’ll get a shot to run a team.  He will have multiple jobs to choose from so I can’t imagine he would choose to go to the Jets.  Their problems start with ownership and that’s not changing.

The "problem" with the compensation aspect of the Rooney Rule is that it arguably disincentivizes  a team from hiring from a divisional or even conference rival.

 

I'd be willing to trade Gray for two 3rd round picks but I have a hard time believing that the Jets will be the team that hires him.

 

True unless that person had inside information of competition, had connections (probably factor in being hired) and could proved significant help to see it is not different from hiring a coach from another team - it helps you and it is not extra cost to you.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to work under that owner, but if he thinks it's a good opportunity for his career, more power to him. I'll take those 3rd rounders for sure.
