Football people from winning programs who had earned the opportunity. It's not like he just continually hired the clowns and washouts that Terry Pegula hired in hockey in their mutual quest with the NY Jets to never again make their respective playoffs. I am really pissed at my FSU Noles for what’s going on with that football program. I thought this would be an appropriate place to veer off topic. Am I wrong!?! Not about FSU, but about this being the appropriate place? 3 Quote
Mister Defense Posted November 20 Posted November 20 So happy this guy is the owner of one of the three teams in the Bills' division. While benching his team wrecking quarterback may not have been a bad idea, as the headcase had undermined almost every aspect of his team, it was Johnson who gave him the power over all, to do the many supremely stupid things he did. I hope Johnson, with his almost jerry jones' like meddling and football knowledge, lives a loong life and never sells his team. In fact, it would be great to see him make rodgers the actual, rather than just acting, GM after this year, the perfect compliment to his leadership. Kind of funny how so many on this board were worried about the rodgers led jets, even as late as this summer! Inexplicable to me, as this was the only outcome possible. 1 Quote

The same Woodie who approved Rodgers trading for Davante Adams? Probably - owners never played or coached football so... they don't know how to run a football team and would likely change their mind on a whim based on a single game performance. You're not the same team you were a week or two ago, players don't play well every week, and unsung people can step up and contribute. Ownership meddling to me tends to lead to names - splash signings and trades of players who have names you know. 1 Quote

It’s our secret The other New Jersey team already tried that, but so far their defining moments are signing Daniel Jones to a big contract, and losing their best player to a division rival. I think the Jets should make Hackett the head coach, and sign Rodgers to a long term extension. 1 Quote

Why would Johnson want Rodgers benched then turn around and be the driving force of acquiring Adams for Rodgers just a couple weeks later? Because Johnson is an idiot who inherited all of his wealth. To quote Belichick regarding Johnson, it's basically "ready, fire, aim" with him. 54 minutes ago, Mister Defense said: So happy this guy is the owner of one of the three teams in the Bills' division. Jerry at least started at DT (alongside Jimmy Johnson) for an Arkansas team that won the national championship in the mid-1960s. He also built his own fortune and has three SB rings (along with a ton of playoff appearances). They are not comparable when it comes to football knowledge. 2 Quote
blacklabel Posted November 20 Posted November 20 It's kind of astounding how some people that just don't seem very bright end up operating billion dollar corporations. The Jets have had their head up their dupas for a long time now. And every time I see a new blunder, I can't help but chuckle and think, hey couldn't happen to a better team! They just can't get their crap together from the top down yet the "insider experts" wanna pick these nerds to sneak up and win the division every other year. I know it's all just production and something to discuss it just gets old and dumb. Anyways, here's to the Jets being a basement dwelling crap salad for decades to come. Quote
TheFunPolice Posted November 20 Posted November 20 (edited) When they fired Saleh their season ended. Whatever you might say about him, Saleh had his defense playing well on a consistent basis. His "DC" is not a guy who was truly running the D. Now suddenly that "DC" has to actually run the D, or have an even less experienced assistant D coach do it, while also taking over as HC in the middle of a disaster. With Saleh, the Jets are 5-6 right now, or maybe 6-5 and right in the mix for the 7 seed or even actually in the playoffs at the moment. Colts are the 8 seed with a 5-6 record right now. Broncos are the #7 at 6-5. People forget that we always go from "it'll take 11 wins to even make it!" to a 9-8 team playing in the Wild Card. It's like clockwork. The Jets and Sabres are bound by their mutual 13 season and counting, longest non-playoff streak in north american pro sports. It's not going off topic when the topic turns to ownership decisions by Pegula versus those made by Johnson. What Food Stamp U is doing going 1-9 this season is a testament to their sorry alumni but that has no relevance whatsoever to decisions made by the Jets/Sabres. Quote

Ppl who legitimately thought buffalo wouldn't win this division ( obviously counting health) is just insane. It was always a bizarre Looney toons opinion. I understand ppl have to talk about stuff in the off-season but good lord. Obviously anything can happen, yes there are down years, injury etc but come on. If it was ever even possible to happen it would be last year but Miami got their doors blown off and then still couldn't beat buffalo even when the bills didn't play a good game. Once they fired Saleh, ( a well liked players coach on defense) , and kept Hackett. It ultimately fractured the locker room and undermined Rodgers leadership and his integrity. Quote
TheFunPolice Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Rex Ryan wants this job badly, to the point where he's basically openly campaigning for it now on the air. It might come down to who to hire: Option A: Rex, the guy who honestly had the most success of any Jets HC in recent memory (2 AFC Title Games) and obviously has a passion and desire for the job Option B: Some relatively unknown offensive assistant coach who will take any gig 5 minutes ago, Kelly to Allen said: Woody Johnson is also reportedly telling ulbrich to bench certain players like Tony Adams according to Rich Cimini lol Yup. I seriously doubt his ability to be a head coach any more, and his ability to be flexible enough to change things as the league evolves. His time with Buffalo really showed that. He clearly did not work hard here. Quote

78thealltimegreat Posted November 20 Posted November 20 From what I understand most of the decisions lately including the Rodgers trade were done through Woodys brother Chris with him just going along with it. He finally had it and decided let’s just clear house and start over as he knows Aaron is likely done after this year anyway. Quote
The Frankish Reich Posted November 20 Posted November 20 1. I can't see Rodgers coming back to the Jets next year. 2. I can't see Rodgers retiring on such a low note. So what other team makes such consistently poor personnel decisions? The Giants, sure, but you gotta get outta NYC. Raiders, he's yours for the asking. 1 Quote
Steptide Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers either rides the bench the rest of the way, or retires and reaches a settlement with the jets Quote
