What about keeping Barkley and getting a QB?

 

Keep Barkley, trade down in the 2024 draft so you pick up an extra 2025 1st, and could still probably have landed BTJ. Then they have an extra pick this year to maneuver up and get a QB.

 

This is similar to what the Bills and Beane did. Trade down in 2017, but still get some core guys. Shore up the OL. Then have ammo to move up  and get your QB the next year. I'm surprised Schoen didnt copy.

The Giants will try to find a QB now. If they succeed, all will be forgiven, if they fail, heads will roll. Especially because Malik will likely emerge as a superstar sooner than later with halfway competent QB play.

 

The bold is pretty much what Im saying. They chose wrong in sticking with DJ instead of re-signing Barkley and looking for a new QB.

 

As it stands, they are still looking for a new QB, but now dont have Barkley either.

 

See above: The Bills broke the drought and made the playoffs in 2017 and were still able to move up and land Josh Allen. They had a plan. The Giants didnt seem like they really had a plan. I tend to blame Owner Influence on that too.

Yeah but that was Mara's mandate, not Schoen/Daboll.

 

Anyway, its a pretty irrelevant discussion. You can have a great back or not. The only thing that matters is a QB. Bills fans should recognize this by now. With or without Barkley, the Giants are still ass without a QB. The Bills were ass with a lot of great RB's.

 

The flip side of signing Barkley and letting DJ walk is that what if DJ blossomed into a Goff-level QB and their new rookie sucked? That would be even worse.

 

They bet on Jones. They were wrong. But you never go wrong prioritizing any kind of stability at the QB position over literally everything else tbh.

Like finally going to the playoffs the year before you are trying to draft a QB from one of the highest rated QB classes ever.

 

They just werent realistic as to what that season really was, who Jones really is, and what they still needed to do.
