But I for one am tired about all of the MVP talk. When it gets down to it, I bet Allen is, too. It's irrelevant to what is important for this team, which still has a lot of work to do.

Allen needs to stay healthy, not win the MVP. The team needs to stay healthy. The defense needs to pull itself together. The defensive backfield has a lot of vulnerabilities that need to be dealt with. Milano is hurt again. Josh hurt his shoulder on a play that he needn't have made. The first thing I want to know after each game is what's the injury situation.

All this MVP yammer is a distraction. I can't imagine anybody on the Bills is spending much time thinking about it.

The team will absolutely treat it like what you’re describing….if we at any point have nothing to play for they’ll sit josh I’m certain.  Or he’ll play a half if they’re worried about keeping him fresh.  I’m not sure how fans wanting him to win mvp can be a distraction 😂

That's the first time I've seen the EZ angle for the bomb to Keon - it is absolutely insane from that angle - seeing him launch then get obliterated off the picture then seeing the ball just shot out of a cannon and drop right into Keon's arms -  like holy crap he actually threw it all the way down there on a dime

To me, the Josh game against the Rams is a lot more impressive than the Josh game against the Lions.  He played great in both games, don't get me wrong. The Lions D is completely wrecked by injuries, but the Rams D was mostly there and Josh still lit them up.  Lamar Jackson fans will point to his 5 TD game and say Josh really didn't earn all the praise, but as good as Jackson is, Josh really is playing better.  (And getting 5 TDs against the Giants D -- come on, that's not bragging material.)

As for the Bills D, I think it will be OK depending on the severity of injuries from the last two games.  The D played pretty well (except the D line) against the Rams and the big score against us was due to Stafford and Nacua playing out of their minds. Two outstanding players, and both showed up at the same game, making some incredible plays.  And Kupp is also still very good.  The Rams record indicates they aren't showing up every game, not to that level.  All those points yielded to the Lions is not that concerning, really, since they are a tremendous offensive team, and they got a lot of their yards and points while McD tried to yield yards slowly while draining the clock.  (The "slowly" part didn't work, and it took Taron Johnson's KO recovery to save the day.  McD will be the death of me.)

Now, if the Jets and Pats score more than 40, I'll be concerned.  I don't expect the Bills to keep getting 40 per game against these weaker teams, because they won't need to.  I think they'll go vanilla and settle for 25-30 points per game, holding those lousy teams to 14 or less.

I get your point, but I respectfully disagree.

Josh Allen has been doubted, ridiculed, laughed at, and insulted his entire career. He has had to fight, claw, and scrap to get where he is. You all already know the story -- the no college offers, the 1,000 letters he wrote, the "if Josh Allen succeeds, he will have outsmarted basically all regular humans and the entirety of math itself" article, all of it -- so I won't go into more detail on it. But make no mistake: If we're talking about legacy, if we're talking about going down as an all-time great and a first ballot Hall of Famer, Josh Allen DOES need to win an MVP award. He absolutely does.

Not only does he need it for his legacy, but he deserves to win it. For the work he puts in, for the way he has transformed this franchise, for the way he lifts up an entire region, for all the good he does in the community. He deserves it.

Aside from needing the award to help cement his legacy, and deserving the award, I also just WANT him to win it. He's a good, kind, funny, genuine, selfless, awesome person and an All-World golden retriever lumberjack space alien with a howitzer for an arm, and *****, I want him to have an MVP on his resume.

So yeah...I get it. It's all about a Lombardi. I'm sure Josh Allen would say the same thing, and I'm sure coach McDermott would say the same thing. But I, as a fan, don't have to say the same thing. I can admit it: I WANT JOSH ALLEN TO WIN THE MVP AWARD. I want it badly.

Well said.  Part of the enjoyment I get in my fandom is rooting for a team and the players and the accolades and the successes - and esp in this case like you said that Josh deserves it so much.  To each his own - but the whole "Nothing matters but winning a SB" is a pretty miserable way to go about it IMO - Why not revel in the success along the way

I see your point, but I think all the MVP talk is actually a motivation for the rest of the team.  They love each other, Josh most of all, and they are going to play out of their minds if they have to, to make him look good.

OJ and Bruce would be the only two previous ones in Bills history, I think.

Josh, OJ, Bruce, and Kelly is probably your Bills Mt Rushmore, though I'd understand the argument for Thurman over Kelly.

They never captured the imagination of the football world in the same manner as Allen.

They never commanded or had the on field presence Allen has.

Josh is the MVP.  End of thread.

When voters looked at the schedule the Lions game was huge becasue it was on the road against the #1 seed (at the time) in the NFC.  If the Bills won and Allen dominated then the MVP was his.  The voters understand that the last 3 games were not going to be showcase opportunities like the last 4 have been.

Now I'm convinced you didn't see OJ.  He played in an era when the best RB was really king.  And for three years he was by far the best RB in the league.  He was simply dominant and was a threat that every defense tried to game plan for.

Crazy part is if Lamar didn’t win MVP last year, this would be a much closer debate. Lamar is having the best passing season of his career. But zero chance he is getting his 3rd.

it’s Allen and I don’t think it will be close. That said, who cares? Let’s win a SB.

He had three outstanding seasons, two being legendary, the rest were not noteworthy. Yes, he is an all time great.

He did not put a team on his back in the fashion Allen has since his 2nd season. Allen has done so with a steady roster change on the offense with few noteworthy players and an offensive line that’s struggled off and on during his tenure.

No player in Bills history has come out of the gate gangbusters like Allen, not to mention at arguably the hardest position to play in professional sports. He is more must see than any Bills player before him.

As a Bills fan part of my brain is always pessimistic, and asking what could go wrong.  In this case, it's the Bills' schedule.  Not impressive.  Sure they beat the top team in each conference, that's really great, but look at the rest:

Cardinals (W) currently 7-7

Dolphins (W) 6-8

Jags (W) 3-11

Ravens (L) 9-5

Texans (L) 9-5

Jets (W) 4-10

Titans (W) 3-11

Seahawks (W) 8-6

Dolphins (W) 6-8

Colts (W) 6-8

Chiefs (W) 13-1

49ers (W) 6-8

Rams (L) 8-6

Lions (W) 12-2

Teams currently above .500 are in bold.  Against them the Bills are 3-3, and in the losses it was only the Rams game where Josh played well.  In fact Josh's poor play (completing 9 out of 30 passes) was really the reason the Bills lost to the Texans.  That game was a wakeup for Josh.  He stopped trying to connect downfield all the time, and turned into smart and deadly Josh.

You can only play the teams on your schedule, and the Bills and Josh deserve great credit for winning all the games they've won.  Even mediocre teams have some good players and coaches.  But still, just 3-3 against teams with winning records is not impressive.

Lamar is currently a wild card and has losses against two of the worst teams in the league. That's why he is not getting his third. Has zero to do with winning it last year.

Agree, but Bills/Rams is the Fox Big game of the week in the Sunday 4:25pm window (which we all know is the window that grabs the largest ratings of the week).  So this weekend and next Sunday 4:25pm CBS at Detroit are basically nationally televised games.

To your point i’d say he has to do well in both these games. lead the team to some scores, preferably no turnovers and hopefully wins. Then i think he’d clinch it.

Well we got our wish! Allen played great in both games, lead the team to a lot of scores + no turnovers to top it off.

Granted, we went 1 - 1, but the game we did win was against the best team in the league (according to most). Just don't listen to Shannon Sharpe, as he's still on the Lamar bandwagon.

The context hurts Lamar so badly…if there was zero past history he’d definitely still be in it.  Getting it rather unjustly last year then not doing much of anything against kc in the playoffs after a pretty bad playoff showing after his first mvp has to have the voters wanting to go a different way

One thing Lamar has going for him is schedule. Next two games are on primetime vs playoff teams. Meanwhile bills are on at 1pm vs terrible teams three times to end the season.

Obviously if Bills win out and Josh Allen plays clean, it's over regardless. But if there is a slip up the door does open for Lamar a bit.

He kind of has the schedule going against him. That Steelers game is a brick wall, he play awful against that team. He puts up numbers like last week or at least in the ballpark and I'll at least concede He deserves being talked about in the discussion. But I'm betting he'll fall right out of this race even if he does manage to squeak by the Steelers.
