If he continues to lead the league in TDs every year and has a long career he’ll get in without the awards. Brees still gets in, even without his Super Bowl.

But at that point you’d have to ask yourself…why won’t anybody give Allen some awards?

If Allen doesn’t get it this year, it’s because the voters favored Lamar’s stats over all of the other things that Josh did this season.

Lamar won first team All-Pro with 30 votes to 18 for Josh.  It's likely that All-pro is more stats driven than MVP. Some are saying it's possible Lamar was awarded the All-Pro accolade since Josh will win MVP and Saquon will win OPOY.  But it's weird since many MVP voters are the same as All Pro voters.  Unless they've all colluded to decide that this year the QB's will "split" the accolades.

I still think Josh wins MVP.  It may be closer than we want, but I believe he wins and the going forward we may see the "split" accolades more often.

Allen didn't lead the league in TD's this year...?

He had 28 passing and 12 rushing for 40 total. Lamar had 41 passing, alone.

From nearly 100 less snaps, IIRC. Averaging them out, Josh was on track to match Lamar, had he taken the same number.

It was pointed out that Lamar got 45 out of 50 1st team All-Pro Votes last year, yet 49 of 50 MVP Votes.  So he received 4 more votes for MVP.  If voters consider All-Pro to be more stats-based, yet think that MVP is more than that, the MVP votes could swing to Josh’s.  All-Pro voting was 30-18 in favor of Lamar.  If say at least 6 or 7 AP voters distinguish a difference between the two awards like seemingly 4 did last year, then Josh could still win MVP.  But like I’ve been insisting, it’s a close race.

Yeah, last year was just such a bad year. Like if Dak Prescott had won last year (runner up, and maybe the deserving winner), people would still look back on that like "Really guys? Dak freaking Prescott the MVP of the entire league?" but I suppose that would be better than looking at Lamar as a now 3-time MVP? There's a legitimate chance Lamar ends up with the most MVPs all time.

Right?!? It’s insane. It’s a bad look.

He is absolutely deserving with those numbers. There is no doubt that it would be warranted this year. I’d obviously vote for Josh but Lamar has a strong case.

*41 for Josh Allen. Don't forget the receiving TD (even if it was a bizarre play where he gets credit for 2 TDs)

again

it makes absolutely no sense to vote one guy first team allpro and another for mvp

Fine mister pedantic. Leading or near leading…Allen leads the league in TDs since 2020 and it’s not particularly close.

Four people did it last year.  It's possible but not probable that more would do it this year in Allen's direction.

I don't think it's pedantry to point out that he didn't lead in touchdowns when we're talking about the MVP race. Seems pretty important. But okay.

My comment was in response to a comment about the HOF. So cumulative stats would be more relevant there.

There's of course also a chance that some Allen All Pro voters give Lamar the MVP vote too (I think your hypothetical is more likely than mine, but still possible).

Yet Lamar literally had mid-league numbers last year and won the MVP in a landslide.  Could probably swallow Lamar winning this year if he wasn't essentially gifted it last year.  He had 29 total TDs last year for goodness sake.

It makes no sense.

Every teammate and opponent of his has said how great he is. How difficult he is to stop.

If you asked a Chiefs fan whether Allen or Jackson worries them more..I guarantee they would say Allen.

Oh well. A SB win this year will make up for everything.

actually they dubbed him 'most overrated'

its time we face the fact that Allen's greatness may well go unappreciated among his peers and the media to the extent that once he retires he will be a footnote

That makes less sense if the argument is if an All Pro criteria looks more at your basic statistics while MVP votes consider a player's overall impact on a team.

I do think you will see more people than in the past vote for a player as first team and still select someone else as MVP.

The spirit of the awards are different, being 1st team is a vote to be the best player at that position where MVP is a player that is most valuable to his contending teams success.

With that said, Josh would need to have at least 6 of those votes flip and that is a much higher hurdle than where I thought we were earlier today.

Its disappointing and I hope the team uses that as additional fuel, the great ones are able to channel those sort of grievances to actionable successes such as Jordan and Brady.
