boco357 Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I wonder if Mark Davis will try and bring back Gruden again or will the league tell him no. Quote

If they go into the playoffs with 13-15 wins with Allen still protecting the ball and throwing very few INTs... I think that's enough to say he's proven. They're getting 30+ points a game more regularly than everyone but Detroit, but with less celebrated weapons. Remember the narratives around the team before the season compared to what's actually happened. It's bound to get attention. Quote

I could see Lions DC Aaron Glenn going to the Jets. He played there from 94-01 so he has history with them. I don't see an established HC going there with Johnson but Glenn would be a first time HC so he might jump at the opportunity. Quote

An owner isn't going to fire himself, so the HC is next to go. It's why I still think Mike McDaniel isn't fully safe in Miami even though they just signed him to a new deal. If Miami crashes from here on our his seat may be boiling hot. IMO fan boil over is overrated. Majority of money for teams comes from NFL profit sharing and for many teams ticket brokers and travel agencies. If local fans do not buy then they sell to visiting teams' fans as part of packages. Fans are courted but NFL changes schedules and fans who have spent hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars as well as using up leave time are screwed but teams expect new fans to replace them. Definite House Cleanings (where GM will follow coach out the door) Jets - Joe Douglas is done IMO, house cleaning coming Jags - How Trent Baalke ever got a second crack is still amazing to me Possible - Bears - I think Ryan Poles survives because the perception is that Bears roster is solid, but he hired Eberflus and his decision to draft Odunze rather than try and fix the offensive line with his second first rounder looms large. I just think they will want someone committed to Caleb to stay and he will be told to hire an offensive Head Coach to develop him. GMs who are carrying the can Colts - A lot of the shrewd observers think Irsay is fed up of the QB carousel in Indy and that will land at Chris Ballard's door rather than Shane Steichen's. Browns - Someone's head will roll for the decision to move off Baker and give Watson that contract. Stefanski is fortunate, because he was the driving force behind the first part of that - moving off Baker - but I think the Browns know he is a pretty good coach who isn't easily upgraded so Andrew Berry might be the one who pays with his job Possible - Dolphins - they might yet make a playoff push and save everyone, but if they don't the Dolphins top brass are going to ask whether Mike McDaniel is failing to get the most out of this highly salary cap leveraged roster or if Chris Grier has pushed his chips in on the wrong bets. There is about to be serious salary cap pain coming and Grier has been GM for 8 years without a playoff win to show for it. He is the more likely casualty if the fins finish below .500 I agree here mostly, my only disagreement is the Bears, I think they have progressed a bit and they get another year... Jets - Mess they gotta build a new house not clean the old one Colts - Irsay is so volitale anything could happen but like you, my bet is Ballard, then Steichen will be the decision of the new GM Jags - I see a full house cleaning and maybe past that... like a Trevor Lawrence trade and they draft a new QB Dolphins - Really interesting... assuming they dont make the playoffs... I dont see McDaniel going.... I do see Chris Grier in big trouble... much like (I know its another sport) Kevyn Adams too may big contracts for too little production. Now they are in Cap hell with some aging talent in Hill and Moestert, Poyer etc... Browns - Totally agree on this 100% the ironic thing was, I believe that it was the owner who made the Watson thing possible but Berry will pay for not talking him out of it. Stefanski is done Other interesting notes Cincy - If they miss the playoffs again... I am not sure who goes or if they all go but someone will pay there. Could Marvin Lewis come back LOL Dallas - McCarthy is done like dinner after this season and I think Jones is eyeing Belichek the question is will Jerry give him the control... Baltimore - Kinda sneaky here and I dont expect this to happen, but, if they are another 1st Rd exit with all of the Henry's and vets they have brought in to get over the top... I half wonder if something doesnt go down there... San Fran - what happens if they miss the playoffs? Hmmm? Injuries I know... Purdy coming a bit back to earth... but I wonder here Quote

And yet you have multiple owners that read way too much of the opinions on social media and form decisions based off that. Not a lot, but some of the poorly run franchises....which checks out why they are run so poorly. The Dolphin ownership is and always has been a franchise that monitors the public opinion and reacts accordingly. Edited November 21 by BuffaloBillyG Quote

T master Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I think the Eagles, Browns, & Bengals are all safe Browns will keep Stephanski just because they are the Browns, Eagles have won with their coach just need a tweak, Bengals will change their DC because they are scoring points just have no D . I think Dabol is done unless he can get something out of his back up QB, Bears yes, Jacksonville ???, Cowboys not sure how Jerry can blame the coach for Dak being out that's a tough call . The Panthers are just a dumpster fire ! Who ever made the call to draft their QB needs to be fired if they haven't been already & f it was ownership they need to be made to sell the team ! Worst mistake in that draft ... Quote

But if he were fired.........and McDaniel were fired........do you think McDermott tries to hire McDaniel as OC? Brings in a guy familiar with the Bills personnel and the division but also I still think McD wants to run a Shanahan style offense. Quote

They are both no longer there, but both, independent of each other, said it is going to take a major collapse type scenario for McDermott to get fired. Terry loves Sean and Brandon and they totally have his trust. 3 Quote

Just let him go to NOLA to be Brady's OC and learn on the job there. I'm sure Curry is a good prospect but I think the OC position is one McD will want a proven vet at going forward. Just like Reid wanted a proven DC opposite his expertise. And hey, if McDaniel succeeds and gets hired as a HC again.......you get comp picks just like you would with Curry and Babich. 2 Quote

He is the more likely casualty if the fins finish below .500 I have to believe that Grier's failure to properly address the O-line to protect Tua, and work in McDaniel's system puts him on the hot seat. I think this falls on McDaniel, as well, but there isn't the type of HC/GM marriage in Miami like there is in Buffalo. Tua's biggest flaw, IMO, is his poor ability to work off-script, and keep his eyes downfield when facing pressure. Add in his concussion history, and Grier's failure in this regard is truly unforgivable. And Tua's contract must certainly have raised Ross's blood pressure when half the league was calling for Tua's retirement, after his last concussion. I'll say this also-- go onto one of the Dolphins fan forums, and you'll learn pretty quick that Grier is utterly despised by the fanbase. 3 Quote
Low Positive Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Everyone here in Cincinnati knows that Zac Taylor is going nowhere until after the 2026 season. Not because he shouldn't for football reasons, but because Mike Brown doesn't pay people not to work for him. Also, look how long he kept Marvin Lewis. 1 Quote

I think McDaniel is a good coach and I also think it'd be crazy to fire him. But it could happen. As for the playoffs this year, they are currently a good team but unfortunately (for them) 4-6 with games in Green Bay, in Houston, and at home vs SF. The rest are manageable; their away game vs the Jets is the final game of the season and that could be a classic run for the bus game for the Jets. The Bengals are the most interesting to me. If they beat the Steelers at home coming off their bye, the rest of their schedule is pretty easy until the final game. I can easily see them at 9-7 before their season-ending game in Pittsburgh. The only other tough opponent is Denver the prior week, but that's at home. 2 Quote

Their schedule gets easy but they can lose to just about anyone when they don't bring it, which they often don't. So I tend to think they don't make it. And I wouldn't mind a rematch in the divisional round if the Bills managed to get the 1 seed and had a bye. But if the Bills ended up with the 2 seed and Cinci had the 7 that's a terrible first round draw against a top 5 QB that could put some hard miles on you even if they don't pull an upset. Give me Denver or LAC with their Oregon QB's who've never won anything yet in the NFL. 2 1 Quote
