Coach Tuesday Posted November 19 Posted November 19 (edited) Crazy that it’s mid-November and already there are a ton of teams completely folding up the tent. There could be double-digit head coaching vacancies this offseason which will, in turn, affect more stable teams as coaches get interviewed during the playoffs, some coordinators end up getting poached, and new regimes want new players to match their program. Trying to tally up the likely openings as of today: Done Deals NY Jets New Orleans Saints All But Over Jacksonville Jaguars Chicago Bears Dallas Cowboys Very Possibly Over Las Vegas Raiders Carolina Panthers Indianapolis Colts New York Giants Possible Surprises Cincinnati Bengals Cleveland Browns Philadelphia Eagles That is 5 near-certainties, assume 2 out of 4 from the next category and one surprise as there almost always is and you’ve got anywhere from 8-10 openings potentially in play this offseason. Will make for a lot of turnover in the coaching world and a lot of free agents as players get jettisoned by incoming regimes. Will be fascinating. Edited November 19 by Coach Tuesday 3 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted November 19 Posted November 19 I think I have Jets, Saints, Cowboys, Jaguars, Bears, Giants, Bengals I think Antonio Pierce and Dave Canales get another year to prove themselves. Panthers are playing better the last couple and Pierce will get the chance to work with a rookie before he gets let go. Can't see Indianapolis making a move. I would fire Daboll and Schoen but they might get another year but if it were me that job would be open. I honestly think that Cincinnati makes a move off of Zac Taylor. They missed last year, Burrow is putting up MVP numbers yet they are 4-7 and I dont think Taylor is the right guy to get them over the top. Browns maybe only because its the Brown but I would give Stefanski more time and even though Sirianni is an asshat he redeemed himself after last year. All in all I have 7 openings with the possibility of 8 if the Browns let Stefanski go. 1 1 Quote
BillsfaninSB Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Canales will get another year for sure. I think the Colts coach will survive. 2 Quote
Doc Brown Posted November 19 Posted November 19 It would be dumb for the Colts to move off Steichen but it's Irsay so who knows. On the flip side, the Raiders would be dumb to stick with Anotonio Pierce who was never qualified for the position. 1 hour ago, gonzo1105 said: I honestly think that Cincinnati makes a move off of Zac Taylor. It's an interesting situation because Burrow is thriving in Taylor's offense. This is the team where I put my antennae up for a possible Joe Brady hire going back to his ties to LSU. 1 Quote
GunnerBill Posted November 19 Posted November 19 I think Daboll and Schoen are going to survive and get a chance to pick their own QB. Just my sense from the vibes out there. I agree the five certainties are: Jets Saints Jags Bears Cowboys I think the 6th most likely is still Eagles, Sirianni has to win a playoff game to survive IMO. My surprise that hasn't been mentioned so far is the Rams. That would be a stepping away rather than a firing but I think Stafford looks pretty washed. They will be too good to be in position to draft a guy and I'm not sure McVay strikes me as a guy who wants to stay and work in QB purgatory. 3 1 Quote
BillsFanForever19 Posted November 19 Posted November 19 I'm sure if we don't make it to the Super Bowl - the board will be saying Sean McDermott should be fired. And just like every year, it's extremely unlikely Pegula would pull the trigger. 1 1 1 Quote
GunnerBill Posted November 19 Posted November 19 (edited) Linked to this where are the GM vacancies? Definite House Cleanings (where GM will follow coach out the door) Jets - Joe Douglas is done IMO, house cleaning coming Jags - How Trent Baalke ever got a second crack is still amazing to me Possible - Bears - I think Ryan Poles survives because the perception is that Bears roster is solid, but he hired Eberflus and his decision to draft Odunze rather than try and fix the offensive line with his second first rounder looms large. I just think they will want someone committed to Caleb to stay and he will be told to hire an offensive Head Coach to develop him. GMs who are carrying the can Colts - A lot of the shrewd observers think Irsay is fed up of the QB carousel in Indy and that will land at Chris Ballard's door rather than Shane Steichen's. Browns - Someone's head will roll for the decision to move off Baker and give Watson that contract. Stefanski is fortunate, because he was the driving force behind the first part of that - moving off Baker - but I think the Browns know he is a pretty good coach who isn't easily upgraded so Andrew Berry might be the one who pays with his job Possible - Dolphins - they might yet make a playoff push and save everyone, but if they don't the Dolphins top brass are going to ask whether Mike McDaniel is failing to get the most out of this highly salary cap leveraged roster or if Chris Grier has pushed his chips in on the wrong bets. There is about to be serious salary cap pain coming and Grier has been GM for 8 years without a playoff win to show for it. He is the more likely casualty if the fins finish below .500 Edited November 19 by GunnerBill 1 1 Quote

Bruffalo Posted November 19 Posted November 19 It's more likely than not that Joe Brady will get some interviews. Whether or not he gets a job is really dependent on how the rest of the season goes. Quote
Cray51 Posted November 19 Posted November 19 I'd have to think Zac Taylor is gone if they don't make the playoffs for a second year in a row. Top 5 QB, Top 3 WR, Top 5 edge rusher... Losing close games falls to the coaches. Their DC is gone for sure, but if they have a shot at Ben Johnson I'm suspecting they will move on from Taylor and to him. Quote
GoBills! Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Bengals need to cut ties and find the best coach available. Bill Bellicheck would be dying to coach them, I’m sure Ben Johnson would take it if he wants to move. Vrabel as well. Doesn't matter who the Jets hire as long as Rodgers is running his circus it’s dead in the water. Jags seem stuck with Trevor so that job isn’t exciting. Saints are in cap hell so good luck there. Panthers and Vegas are poorly run so again retread hires will be the best they get. 1 Quote

I watched the Raiders vs Dolphins on Sunday, I knew Turner was there because of his son, when I saw Lewis I had to Google the coaching staff. It’s a who’s who of has beens. 1 Quote

However, if the season were to end for the third straight year at home in the playoffs...I may be persuaded. 1 Quote

Ethan in Cleveland Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Most of the talk on Cleveland radio is that The Browns will clean house with new GM and new HC. If I was Stefanski I would resign now. He lost the locker room when he was forced to play Watson and even after he was terrible kept saying he was the best option to win. His LT is already on record as saying he isnt playing injured as he needs to make a business decision. Garrett was checked out against the Saints. Quote

Don’t be surprised if Burrow and Chase push for Joe Brady to come on over and reunite the LSU gang. It’s up to the owner to make that choice but I could see the allure on both sides. Given how well the Bills have played since Brady took over, especially on a “rebuild” year, is going to drum up some interest. Even moreso if Josh wins MVP. The price of being good is that everyone wants what you have. Quote
First Round Bust Posted November 19 Posted November 19 bye week chatter...cuz barnyard animals need to fed: There could more coaching changes than usual ...am impressed with the Bills new coordinators who are young-talented-productive and are praised for their abiliities as far as relating to younger players... so... are they head coaching candidates ? this year or next ?? if so... who would replace them...who is our qb coach...that seems to be path to OC....and who would be next man up for D coord either this year or next... I will hang-up and listen... Quote

The Raiders are not at all competitive. They are not prepared, their schemes suck, they have little fight. Davis is in a tough spot because he keeps firing coaches but Pierce is not the answer. Quote
Gregg Posted November 19 Posted November 19 I can't believe Dallas hasn't won a home game yet. It seems like every loss at home is also a blowout loss. McCarthy is 100% gone after the season. Quote
BrooklynBills Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Done Deals NY Jets - I think they do a full house cleaning New Orleans Saints - I do think Joe Brady could be an real option for them All But Over Jacksonville Jaguars - yes Chicago Bears - yes Dallas Cowboys - yes Very Possibly Over Las Vegas Raiders - yes Carolina Panthers - Canales will get a bit of run here IMO Indianapolis Colts - I think the HC is safe but Ballard could be in trouble b/c Irsay wants QB situation resolved. If their is a viable QB solution that they could find, I think they all stay. New York Giants - I think this a clear spot for Belicheck Possible Surprises Cincinnati Bengals - Zac Taylor is signed thru 2026 and I don't think the offense has been the problem so this would surprise me. Cleveland Browns - Vrabel is already there as a consultant and sounds like it could happen before the end of the season. Philadelphia Eagles - I think Sirianni is safe but will be dependent on the rest oof the season. 1 Quote
