He did but the defender already had leverage IMO. That play was on Josh who should have waited a split second longer for Samuel to uncover. Brady even said it yesterday in his presser. He wouldn't take back the playcall, Josh wants the execution back. They showed Josh on the sideline after in with the ipad kinda pounding his helmet I think he knew straight away that was a bad play.

That's interesting, I didn't see the presser. For me it kind of deflects from the issue though. I saw a lot of this type of pick in the past, Gabe was really good at being the target. I haven't seen it much this year (not that it hasn't happen) but I don't think it's a coincidence that this type of miscommunication happened. Knox has been around long enough to understand and be on the same page with Josh. So while the ball should have gone elsewhere, it still leaves the fact that Knox saw one thing and Josh the other.

I normally don't absolve Josh of blame, he still throws some balls that shouldn't be thrown, but to me there's some smoke here. I was hoping they would have given Davidson some more opportunities, he seems to be a good hands catcher of the ball and looks to have decent athletic ability.

Yes and that's my biggest problem with Knox - he has very poor understanding of spacing, leverage, reading coverages, and making himself available for his QB. On that play he runs into the CB and just stops... What could he possibly have been thinking there? He effectively capped his own route and took himself out of the play, and the CB finished the route for him and made the catch that Knox was supposed to make. His physical skills pop when he's asked to perform a basic assignment and not think, but introduce any level of complexity and he just can't be trusted at all.

For me it's important to be on  the same page as Josh, a lot of these routes are sight adjustments. I responded to Gunner too, but I agree it seems poor that after the amount of time he's been in the system that he has trouble seeing the same thing Josh does.

this seems like a myth thing from fans. sure you might hold onto a few plays, but refusing to scheme up a player on a pretty hefty contract, in hopes of unleashing in playoffs is silly.  first, were not the staff to jump in and trust someone like that without earning that trust first, and knox has had almost no targets this year.  secondly, what an absolute waste of resources to keep it under wraps for a full 17game season, not to mention, getting a specific package open on tape, can help open up other things by keeping a defense honest.

I would hope year after year of playoff exits the Bills would have some wrinkles in store for the guaranteed playoff run, but perhaps you are right.

guy has 22 targets all year.  if he's living in there, he's in the basement...

I don't know even this year on the scramble drill him and Josh just seem to be on the same page. There was a reason he had so many red zone TDs with Josh in previous seasons.

i didnt notice it during the game but i think i heard something about it...miscommunication probably

Yes, Josh thought he should have kept going and Knox stopped

Yep. And this is a clear case of we don't know who is the wrong, only coaches know. And I'd say for this play, it's probably just a different on-the-field decision by both, so no one is at fault, really.

does anyone know Brady's usage of TE's in college ?    one thing i dont get..is if u watched the video knox took a lot of outlet/screen lineups about 3 yards past the where josh was and he was highly effective.

i dont know how many times ive seen the outlet lined up in a latteral line with josh, we have one blocker and the D has two defenders.  one

takes out the blocker and the other takes out the ball carrier and its dead play.

with knox he was starting to run as soon as josh turned his head his direction to throw at times.

also MVS   two games...two big showings.

He didn't work hard enough to earn snaps here.  He is getting snaps with shaheed and olave out.  When he did get snaps here, he didn't separate or make any plays.

Ad libbing a bit here but i guess when Dawson was interviewed post game they asked him how it felt to make a Td.

His answer was just..hey...ive been here before and done that.

at the end i was really beginning to think Daboll had completely lost his mind but...man he did an excellent job

scheming players for a while.

Brady should lock himself in the closet for about 12 hrs and just keep watching this video.

I had totally forgot how great of an outlet player Dawson was.   and only one time in this entire video did i see an outlet player or screen

lined up directly lateral from Josh.   Some of these plays Dawson was an out right bully.

you'll have to click on the link because of nfl regs but its worth the watch.

this was posted in 22 and has 13 mins off bang bang play after play highlights.

I was going to start another post on giving Knox some love from the Mafia but glad to see you beat me to it  !

I'm so glad to see Brady waking up or forced to use Knox more in game, i hate it because of injury but maybe that's the wake  up call Brady needed . I was listening to 1 Bills Live and they made mention of the same thing you did about Knox making that comment about being there before .

Then Browny said, "Let's not forget Knox had a season prior to Kincaid getting here that he scored 9 TD's" yes NINE TD's in 1 season !!! And he is one to look to as a red zone weapon as well given his size !!

The dude is a weapon that has totally been under utilized to this point of the season because since Kincaid has gotten here he's been put on the back burner .

If the Bills are going to go to the SB Knox and ALL of the others that are weapons will be needed at some point i just hope that both Brady & to a certain extent Josh remembers that Knox is a vital piece of the pie that needs to be divvied out at the table when it comes to every one sitting down to eat !!

The season he had 9td, he was a force, trucking people..high light sideline catches.   he was physical and athletic.   i know he had a down season i guess playing

injured and then between daboll going nuts and ken dorsey came in and the offensive strategy changed completely. within that knox's usage also died.

hard to believe that his athletic ablity and drive died.   I do love kincaid though.   im not sure i'm  a fan of how we utilize tight ends now but

were winning so i'll just sit back and watch.

on a non football week i wanted to hightlight what Dawson Knox had brought to the table at one point.
